Slow Stick pics today, take off at 11,000 MSL

Finally got some shots from the Grand Mesa just outside of town.
Leave town (4,700 MSL)at 88, drive 25 min to switchback, up the switchback for another 30 min, and now your at 11,000 feet and it's in the sixties. Mmmmm, feels nice.

6,300 feet to the valley floor from this vantage point. A couple of times I had the slow stick out so far (but not really high) I was almost clear of the switchback, and almost over the valley. So, in essence, had the SS at about 5,000' AGL.

Back to overhead, caught some great lift and specked her out, I'm guessing 1,500 feet and very hard to keep my eyes on, so that puts her at about 12,500 MSL.

Those lakes out there sit about 7,000 feet lower than the SS vantage point.

Steve:

Great series. Stunning landscape. Some very subtle colors in there.

Wonder why they built that stone wall at the lookout point - spoils the view ;-)

Thanks. Others certainly take as good and better shots, I just live in an area that affords lots of good photo ops.

I plan to go back up on the mesa this weekend in the morning, and I'll bet the photos will look quite different with the lighting change.

BTW, the mesa I took those photos from is touted as "the world's highest flat top mountain".
