My first attempt at a carbon fiber Gyro with 2 videos

Hello All,

Here are a few pictures of my first attempt in trying to build a light weight carbon fiber gyro.

36" long
58" rotor span
Axi 2826-12 motor
3250mah 4cell battery
All up weight with Snoopy, 74oz

This has also been my fisrt try with a u-joint for the DC head, sure cut down on
parts.

Had a chance to maiden it this evening and it flew great. With a disc loading around 4 (according to my calculations???) it really floats at low throttle, landings are a blast. I am hoping my wife will get some video tomorrow, that's going to cost me, LOL...

Hi Nils,
I see you got a autopilot on your autogyro,
does it work and how did you do the setup??

Hi Martin,

I used the FMA co-pilot 2, set it up as an airplane, can turn it on and off and adjust the stability from the transmitter. It has saved me many times when I have gotten disoriented.

Nils,
That is a very impressive first carbon pusher autogyro. I am sure it flies as well as it looks
When I first looked at the photo I thought that it was pretty small then I saw its stats!!

You don't need an auto pilot when you have Snoopy at the stick!!

Good work!

Regards

Thanks Rich,

All the credit goes to you and your designs. I think I have read every thing you have posted and it has really helped me to understand these things. Purchasing your RPG plans was the best investment I have made and I refer back to them often.

I have a couple of videos from today that I am attempting to upload.

Thanks again,
Nils

That looks pretty good to me. I am sure you must be hooked by now.
Did you know that autogyros will LOOP ??? Because I am sure that Snoopy will be ably to handle it OK. Keep up the good work.

Hello Chris,

I have seen videos that you guys have made doing loops and rolls but been afraid to try it. I would like to get advice on autorotation landings, what is the procedure for doing a controlled, safe, power off landing? Do you push the rotors forward to keep the speed up then flair close to the ground or pull back on them and let it float in?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nils
