Got mine.

I just unpacked and inspected the parts. Very nice

No damage, all the parts are very well made and fit together nicely.

I'll probably start my build tonight or tomorrow, i'll take a few pics as I build and post them all together.

Nac, looks good. Should receive mine in the mail any day.
This is my second Skywing. I love the easy of the build. I would say I am not a very good builder, but with Skywing airplanes majority of the work is done .

Would T-Pro MG90 9G Metal Gear Servo be a good choice.

thanks

I don't mind the MG14s, but they're so fork and bloody loud!

I've got two D933MGs and are pretty happy with them. And nice and quiet! http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10977 Might go these I think. Or MG14s.

Tried the 929MG: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=11856... SHITE! LOST of flutter. Don't seem to hold as much as they are rated to. Too much slop. Apart that they're great and almost as new! Anyone want to buy them from me?

Is the wing on this plane a solid piece of EPP, or is it built up?

Mine just arrived today.

The wing construction looks like a solid EPS or EPO foam core with a 4mm EPP sheet skin.

There also looks to be a full length spar in addition to a CF wing tube.

The wing appears to be very stiff. The ailerons match the aerofoil (i.e. not a flat plate)....if that makes sense.

The ailerons are also quite stiff.

The wing uses a similar construction method to my Winners Model Extra (except for the wing tube) which IMHO has produced a stiff and accurate wing.

You can tell by looking at this model that a lot of thought has gone into the design and construction.

The quality looks to be outstanding. I think Skywing have set a new benchmark for foamie design with this one.

Things have changed since the 48" yak then. That wing is hollow with EPP ribs and skin with CF and ply spars.

As for servo choice, I used the MG14s in my yak. When set up for 40 degree throws on the ailerons, they are not man enough for full deflection at full speed. It's not a high speed plane though...

I've more or less finished building the airframe. Here's a photo to show how it looks.

Build Pics and notes

Here are some pics and notes of my build.

- All of my previous EPP builds have been with Scotch glue but for this kit I used only CA (thin and Med).
- MG14's fit fine, but you may need to file one end of the holes to allow the servo to pop in without damaging the wires.
- I used two servo extension cables for the rear servos. I taped a small lead weight to the end of the cable and dropped it down.
- The wood servo aileron mounts seemed a little loose so I added CA around the wood/EPP.
- My horizontal stab hole was a bit out and caused the stab to not line up with the wings. So i used a some wedges to keep it in place until the glue dried.
- I added some Blenderm tape to both the elevator and rudder.
- The screws for the SFG's in my kit were too short, so I just found some long ones in my spare parts boxes.
- The plane without lipo ended up weighing 906g, so with my 2200 lipo the all up weight is 1100g

I still need to setup the throws and might find that I need servo extensions. Also I think my lipo will be all the way up the front of the box.

So I am very pleased with the build quality of the kit, being V1 there are a few minor things that may need updating but nothing major.

The only issue that you should pay extra attention too is the horizontal stab alignment with the wings. I would suggest that you test fit and trim the slot if required.

Everything looks great. I am wondering about the landing gear also though. Hope it holds up to grass.
