My elevator hinge was completely out after I landed the othe day on one side. I put it back in with some ca and added a hinge. Maybe some hinge tape wouldn't be a bad idea on this plane all around? The build quality is obviously leaving something to be desired. Maybe we should be trying to prevent things in advance.

Had it out, beautiful outside, it was flying like a dream, fast, straight, crisp, I decided to come in for a quick landing just to check the elevator I had glued, and it had a bounce upon touchdown, the friggin thing just about explodes! pieces go flying everywhere, then it noses over and lands upside down. I can't believe it, I have bounces much worse than that on other planes and never even an issue. The foam around the gear is cracked along the center, the backplate cracked, I thought I would fly it anyway but when i tested the throtte it was wobbling really loud, the whole plane vibrated. I took it home and took the mount off and it doesn't seem to be any more crooked than before. I spin the motor and feel it and it vibrates on my fingers, but very fine vibration, so I'm not sure if the motor itself bent or if it's normal. I think it's time for a new motor.
I think I may trim around the plastic backplate and just keep the center round part and see if the vibration is still there., it's all I need, the rest is for the 3 blade prop which I'm not using. |

lol we're not having too much luck with this plane.. Agghhhhh! That's too bad. Glad to hear it was flying good for you though. I would try to stick with that motor as long as possible because it's difficult to find a new motor mount for this plane. Oh and I took my landing gear out and epoxied the SH*T out of it and screwed it all back together. It's seriously like impossible to break off now. Did you see how hard I slammed it in the video? Didn't even phase the gear... just snapped my fuse in half lol.
I just have a basic radio without all those functions. I may have to spot for one. It sounds like it will make these planes easier to control.. |

Everyone to his own, but for me it makes all the difference, especially at landings. Expo is the main thing for me: around the center you can smooth the movement down a lot, and you still have the large throws when you need them. Although, every time I land with full throws (because I've forgot to switch the dual-rate) I end up with more problems than when coming in smooth.
But it's of course a matter of taste. |

On my new EPP profile 3D foamie, 40-50% expo is needed to tame the sticks down enough to be able to hover and fly very smoothly, otherwise everything is twitchy and horrible, its just not possible to be that precise with thumbs on a little stick, unlike real aircraft with a big joystick. |

Justin, don't judge the hobby based on one of the hardest planes to fly there is. To enjoy this plane, you need to understand and work on balancing plane and propeller, set up expo on the tx, do quite a lot of trimming flights, possibly straighten parts of the surfaces, reinforce weak factory assembly, battle with a poorly designed landing gear, and finally fly and land at high speeds due to its rather high wing loading. On top, the motor is powerful, so you need to learn how to use right rudder at takeoff.
In sum, the step from trainer to this plane is too large to be comfortable. For me the large step means a steep learning curve, but way out of comfort zone. I still get stressed just by driving to the field with the MX2 in the booth but I've decided to learn how to fly this plane proper or wreck it completely. Then I will buy the PA AddictionX or Bandit and move on. Per aspera ad astra |

Maiden Flight
I got a blue MX2 about a week ago and maiden was yesterday. I must say it flew great, but I didn't push it too far - just 2 batteries. Spent the first one trimming out and testing slow flight up high, for landing. Basically cut the power and it glided in beautifully. Second landing was not so good - my fault - I think I gave a bit too much up elevator as it first touched down and it jumped back into the air and stalled about 6 inches off the ground and then hit a sand patch on the oval and flipped. No significant damage - prop adaptor still straight. One wheel pant split open, otherwise OK. Just have to remember not to give up elevator with the landing speed.
I did use plenty of exponential - would never fly this without it. Justin, looking at your video a radio with expo would really help you enjoy this plane, instead of fighting it. I read through a lot of this thread - thanks to everyone that has posted. Also watched the videos to learn the good and bad. |

New ESC Manual
Hi Kawi, I seem to remember reading the ESC you got with the plane did not match the beeps/tones of the manual posted in this thread. Mine didn't either, but I did get an ESC manual in the box with my MX2. I know you bought a new ESC, but I scanned my manual in case it matches your original ESC and you want to use it anytime.

No, dude it was totally my fault. I decided I just needed to calm down and concentrate on what I was doing. There was hardly any wind yesterday so I decided to try again (after gluing the fuse back together from the previous wreck). I took it off and was seriously flying it like a champ. I had to make very very small movements on the sticks because of how sensitive it is, but I was doing very well. Completely scale looking take-off, did a few rolls, fly-bys, flew inverted for a while, pointed it straight up into the sky and gave it full throttle... It took off with no intentions of stopping. (I do have a different motor on it). Anyways, I was impressed with it. Flew it for about ten minutes with zero mistakes. I ended up letting it get too far away from me, and too close to the ground. I started getting nervous trying to bring it back, thumbs start shaking and I dive-bombed the thing straight into the ground. I'm too embarrassed to even post pictures of it. It was a baginners mistake and I'm irritated. I haven't even inspected all the damages yet, but it's ugly. Then I get home and drop my 4 cell battery onto the driveway and crumple 3 of the cells. Now I don't know whether to buy a new radio, fix the plane up just to wreck it again or just give up. I'm a college student so it's tough putting all this money into this hobby. Think I'm just gonna take a break.

Defects notwithstanding, we all crash for the exact same reason, trading caution for excitement. If you take it too seriously you're not having fun, which lets not forget, is the whole reason we're doing it. If you dont push the envelope you don't learn. Dont let it get you down. We all feel stupid afterwards, thats just part of the fun!

I dropped out of this, but still read what you guys are saying. I'm jumping in for a moment.
I am NOT a negative person, nor do I hate the MX2, but I gave up and moved on even before a big crash happened to me. The plane is with a club mate, and the motor/ESC/Stuff is in another plane. I just tired of the forever problems. Loose this, loose that, epoxy, foam CA, balance that seemed to move about on it's own. Just one "little" thing after another. It is a tinkers dream. If you like to find and fix little issues, this is your plane. When it flew well, if was fun and looked great, but for me, it was a way too small % of the time. If you like a challenge ..... this is for you. I'm lazy. I want to fly, not fix. I enjoy all of your posts, fixes, efforts, so I will continue to read up on what you're doing. Hang in there and someone will eventually sort it ALL out. Don |
