If you buy a single rotor helicopter, you obviously want to advance your skills and progress from the coaxial design. Fine. So why on earth would you get a 3 channel single rotor?

The 9100 and 9104 are the only two that are existence and there's a reason for that.

A 3 channel single rotor will be more difficult to fly than a 4 channel single rotor, a 4th channel adds much needed lateral movement.
How a 4 ch flybarless heli. They ought to be more fun flying outdoors on windy days.

There are several available. But, the difference between 4 and 6 channel flybarless helis is pretty small.

Battery life

Hey all,

First post here. My friend and I both bought 9104's and are having a blast with them. I was wondering about a replacement battery that would give more flight time without altering the flight characteristics much. Can anyone make a suggestion?

One thing we noticed on the 9104 is the difficulty going forward into the wind. The servo arm has 5 holes and the connecting rod from the swash plate was in the 4th hole. Moving it to the 5th hole seemed to give it a little more forward motion.

Thanks

Before going to a bigger battery, you should check the temperature of the motors. Remember too, a bigger battery means more weight, so the motor has to work harder. It may be better to simply get a second battery.

Ok, thanks Balr14. The battery in it seems to be kinda not made to be removed easily the way they used 2 sided tape on it. But I'm sure there's a way to make it more interchangeable.

Hi, I'm a nobee at this sport...ie the whole RC thing. I started out with a DH 9104 a week ago. Need a little help, just the other day the heli cannot get more than a foot off the ground. Not sure what is going on. The battery is fully charged and has an no load voltage of about 8 volts. I would hope the battery would last more than a week.
There is no damage to the machine, no serious crashes.
Thanks

A fully charged lipo battery has nominally 4.2v per cell, or 8.4v for 2 cells. Considering the mass of that heli and the weak motor, 8.0v is very marginal.

I just check it again after a full recharge and I have 8.3 volts.
Is battery the only thing that could be at fault?

8.3v is perfectly acceptable. Now, try to use it and take a reading right after. A bad battery may take a charge well enough, but can't hold it for long. I have two very expensive 3 cell batteries that charge to 12.58v and 12.65v, both quite acceptable. However, one drops to 11.65v and the other to 12.0v in about 30 seconds, which means they are complete crap.

I let the battery sit overnight and its still holding a charge, same 8.3volts. When I get home tonight I'll run the Heli for a minute and see what the voltage is. I don't want to spend to much on this Heli as it was just a trial machine to see if I want to get into this hobby. I'm thinking of moving to a decent TX, one of the Blade Heli's to go with it and a sim program.

That will be a very good test. If the battery reads good after a test, then your problem is the motor.

Battery was still reading 8.3 volts when I got home this evening. I even checked with power on and the heli motor just slightly idling will no drop in voltage. But after playing with it for about 5 mins, ie letting it hover an inch off the driveway (best it can do) the voltage was down to 7.4 volts...with or without any load. Seems to only take an hour to charge back up. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I'd say motor is shot or you have have too much friction somewhere. Pinion not too tight?
