Voltage regulator for TXmitter battery

I recently put a 3 cell lipo in my Hitec optic 6 transmitter and have had great success with it, until I bought a 2.4GHz Hitec module for an upgrade. With a fully charged battery which was 12.1v it apparently fried the module. Tech support told me it can't handle the voltage and needs a regulator or go back to the Ni-Cad pack. I need some help in locating the right regulator to drop the voltage to around 10v. Is there an easy plug in or do I have to build one?

Three forward-biased diodes, in series, in the power input should drop your voltage about 2.1 volts (.7 x 3). They would probably only need to handle about 500ma to safely conduct the transmitter current. A local Radio Shack should be able to supply them.

Have you considered using some 2000mah eneloop cells instead? No regulator necessary.

hi there from Toledo

I recently went to 3s lipo 2200 mah for my xmtr, a Futaba 9cap super. I used two diodes in series in a 3" servo extension in the red lead. This modified extension was connected between the battery and the xmtr. The voltage was reduced by about 1.4 VDC or 11.2VDC which is less than the fully charged voltage of 8s nicads or 8s nimhs. Of course Charging will be handled out of the transmitter by a balancing charger and then reinstalled. Safety first with lipos for sure.

It never ceases to amaze me what extreme measures people will go through to convert their transmitters to LiPo cells when they can use low-self-discharge NiMh cells and get the same benefits and more without any drawbacks whatsoever.

Install this to get teh voltage down:

Note, that the voltage alarm is compromised by installing it.

Otherwise, use multiple diodes in series as explained here:
