I have recently purchased the Turnstile antenna, and have a question: Does it matter which way the antenna parts point, eg: Ground points backwards, and + points forwads?
Thanks !

^^^ He mentioned a spherical radiation pattern so it shouldn't matter how it's aligned as long as the polarization matches. sum- Flat is ok in any direction because it's radiating equally in all directions.

Alex,

I built a turnstile and put it on my hexacopter.

Man that thing works good...

Thanks

Alex,

What would the results be; If this antenna were built with

.035 mig wire?

It would perform just a bit better, actually. Ideally you'd use .062" wire.

Thank you Alex,

I'll find some .062 wire, and build one.

I can't wait to see the results.

Hi,

Sorry, maybe I am just missing something.
I am busy getting all the stuff to build one of these for my 433mhz system.
Also looking at using mig wire.
But now the spec and this is confusing me - originally it calls for 18-24 awg - which is 0.04 - 0.02 inch diameter or 1.02mm - 0.51mm diameter.

The 0.063 mig wire is 1.6mm diameter.

Am I reading this correct that 1.6mm diameter mig wire would work just fine ?
Or is it better to go for something thinner - like 0.8mm or 1mm wire ?

Thanks for the excellent writeup.

Is there any chance of this working for 2.4ghz radio rx? I would like to get better performance from my stock system. What I think my real question is, what would the measurements be for 2.4ghz?

For 2.4GHz, the specs are on FPVLAB. I thin it's post #179 or so.

@Mike - You are over thinking this. The wire makes almost no difference at all. You can use 30AWG and it will work fine. I just had to put some kind of constraint on it, that's all.

My english just sucks, but here I go:

Is it possible to mount the turnstile antenna vertically on the rudder and keep the TX antenna vertical?

My Nagoya NA-774 is omni directional, so if I mount it horizontally will I need to "point" it to where the plane is? If the tip of the antenna is pointing to my right for example and the plane head to there will the radio lose signal strength?

DL Antenna - Dipole?

Hi Alex, once again, thanks for your tutorials.

May you could help me on a little doubt here

I want to make a dipole antena for my DragonLink that can be feeded by the botton part. like on the right image

Using the stock dipole feed by the center, I guess IŽll have a no good geometry if I place it like the image on the left.

And it will be a pain to take off some elapor to dig the cable and antenna.

Using an antenna like the one on the right image, I just drill a hole on the rudder, and everything goes straight.

I know the measures to built a 433 mhz antena, but dont know how to make the ground part.

Thanks a lot

The right hand picture is an unbalanced antenna. The radiation pattern would be distorted. How much depends on how much skin effect the signal has. Hard to really say.

Hi Alex, thanks for the fast reply.

So the recomended setup is the first image? Even using the feed cable almost like a "S" shape. I mean, not straight ? Thanks
