My second time building a bandit and PA is 0 for 2 in making the horizontal stab slot actually horizontal. When looking from the rear, you can visabily see how off the slot is. With the tail all the way in and the cf wing tube in it really shows how bad the difference is from the rear. When lining up the right side elevator with the bottom right corner of the cf wing tube, the left side elevator is well above and covering the top left corner of the wing tube (on the left side)
With the horizontal in and bandit siting level on the ground I measured from ground to leading edge corners of the horizontal. Its showing about a 1/4 inch difference from left to right sides of the horiz stab. The awesome part is... this measuring was after about 10 min. of filing the slot to reduce the gap. |

Well, that's clearly noticeable and must be fixed before gluing the stab in place. However, if you think how small the difference is at the fuselage slot when the stab tips show 1/4" difference, you'll realize that it is really tiny amount and quickly adjusted by filing. I saw the same thing in my Bandit as well and it took maybe 20 min to fix it.
Of course it could be possible to make this detail perfect in factory too but I guess the building method for the fuse doesn't involve a jig that would absolutely zero this error (and covering could affect it too). I understand that many people who buy ARF kits want to be able to put them together in a couple of evenings. I actually enjoy building and would gladly build a model like Bandit from a kit... |

Got some pictures and will try to email them to pa this afternoon. I've spent the last hour alternating between filing and putting the tail in to check. I got the difference down to about 4mm at the stab tips and will probably just let the tape do the rest when I glue it in.
Did a prelim tape up and with the tape holding the stab to rudder tighter on the right side it closes my gap to 1mm, which I won't cry about. I just hope it won't result in any bad twisting of the tail or fuselage. |

Trying to trim out my Bandit. I can get it to fly straight and level, hands off no problem but when I climb and recenter the stick, it still wants to climb and when I push the stick forward and re center, it still wants to dive. CG is spot on. Is this the norm for this plane? I have ordered a Hi Tech HS 5065 for the elevator servo to replace the Voltec that came with the IPA. I hope that this helps as the elevator really seems to lag going back to center with the plane on the ground and I am wondering, if under load it is not centering at all......

others in the previous pages have reported erratic centering with the Voltecs. Mine flys with HS-65MG and no centering issue, response and precision are perfect. |

I went just a little forward of neutral on CG for my Bandit. I'm not sure what the exact measurement of the CG is (I only measure first flight to get the plane in the air and then adjust battery position from there). But I found with the Bandit totally neutral, that is flys level hands off inverted that it was a bit too pitch sensitive for me too. So I moved the CG forward just a little so now the plane needs very slight down elevator when inverted. It still only just pulls out of a power of dive really gently and KE is still pretty much couple free but it has damped down the sensitivity of the elevator and made it handle better, well for me anyway.

Is there anything that can be done to strengthen the CF gear? Maybe I'm just flying on a bad field. I've now broken LG from both my PA Katana MD and the Bandit. In both instances no damage was done to the landing gear bay, but the carbon gear legs breaking.
Each time I had wheel-pants on, maybe that was where I went wrong most. I think the wheel pants getting snagged caused the gear breaking. Any ideas? |

But I imagine they make it a bit on the weak side purposely, so that the gear breaks before the aircraft structure. I know if the gear was made too strong you'd simply rip the guts out of the fuselage, it isn't the strongest thing around. I reinforced my fuselage quite a bit due to breakage occurring. |

I'm thinking of doing it myself. |

Good idea, let me know if you find some suitable ones for the LG.
