Started on the 60" Gee Bee R2 tonight.

Got started on the Gee Bee R2 tonight. About 3 hours and the airframe is mostly together. Really really easy building plane so far. We'll see how it continues I guess. Gotta figure out a good power system for it.

Its supposed to weigh 10lbs and use an AXI 4120/18 with 5S and a 15x8 prop. I dont think that will be quite fast enough for my taste though.

More to follow as I get it ready to go.

Have you ever flown one of these? I hear they are a handful. Looks really good, though!

Nope. Not too concerned about it though.

Yeah they are definitely a handful but that the fun of flying a geebee. I built a mini 28'' geebee kit and it was tons of fun.

Your build is looking great, just remember to land with plenty of throttle, geebees like to drop like bricks with low power.

Yep on all of the above. The hardest part of this one so far is figuring out what to power it with. I'd like to stick with 6S lipos. The best I have found so far is the Hyperion Z4035-10 (354kv) with 6S 5000's and a 15x10 prop. The calculator says 63 amps, 1350 watts, and 90mph with 14lbs of thrust. Since this will be around 10lbs, that looks like it might work out pretty well.

This one is the R2 that Hobby-Lobby used to sell. I picked it up NIB from a fella for a killer price. The wifey made me buy it... seriously! She loves "Bee Gees" as much as me.

GeeBee's are great.... they just don't like to loop. It can be done but I've seen many go in from attempting loops and loosing energy at the top.. then stalling and spinning in.

Now Where Did That Plane Go?

Keep the build info coming...I've got one of those NIB in the closet. Maybe one day I'll get to it...or sell it at SEFF.

Crash, this thing is soooooo easy to build. Took just a couple hours for the entire airframe. Gonna add servos and all today. The hardest part is the 3 piece wheel pants. I put them on, taped them in place then screwed them together. Not too bad.

Have a change on the power system too. I ordered a Himax 5030 390 with a 15x14 prop and 6S 4000 lipos. Should work out well.
