2-D circle rc-kite

my new 2-d vector-kite is based on the air-yo.
the air-yo is a toy (kite?) designed by Tim Elverston with graphit frame and ripstop nylon sail. With a control rod in your hand you can direct every glide. you start it like a frisbee, size is 84cm,
manufacture: NewTechkites, three differend colours, item 54601, 54602, 54603

2-D-vector circle

i built a carbon frame and add my 2-D unit inside the air-yo.
..now i have an rc-Air-yo, the vector-ring.
enjoy photos of the ready to fly 2-D version.
i had maiden the kite on monday and it fly`s great, i will add a video soon.
even acrobatic moves like rolls are possible.....

Vestorflyer.. again thank you for all the information you provide. I do have a couple of questions if you don't mind. Is there a reason the kingpost is so tall? I can't quite tell from the photos but is it important on a 2D to have the motor aligned with the kite's spine? It seems that on some of your kites the servo and motor are off to the side.
Thank you in advance.

hi IOldgoatI

thanks for interest.
i glue the servo (with the motor on top) to one side of the flat carbon frame,
because this is very easy to build. the rc-frame is connected with two rubber-connectors to the keelrod. this makes it possible to push the complete unit forward and backward for setup. i use the lines of the kite`s spine for fixing the vectorunit on the top (very lightweight solution). So i have the possibility to make one side of the line a little bit longer than the other side to get the servo(with motor) exactly in the center (over the keel-rod). the kingpost/vectorframe is so tall, because vector-power works best if there is no sail infront or behind the prop (no air-reflexions!)

if you build your own rc-kite attention this:

1. lightweigt, lightweigt, lightweigt (small lipos, cfk-frame instead of gfk)
2. build a "curve/bow" in the keel-rod so the end of the kitesail works like an "elevator".
3. make it possible that the rear edge of the kite sail has no tension. Allow the sail to get a bow/concave on its back (like a rogallo)

...now you know the "top secrets" of flat-sail vector kites (box-kites are different)

how to connect the vector unit

picture shows the connectors i always use for my vector kites.
the string/line is for fixing the frame on the top, the rubber-connectors for the keelrod
....a very flexible solution and a good absorber for the motor-noise and motor-vibration !

2-D-vector unit version I and II

i built a second 2-D-vector unit only with flat carbon and speed glue.
enjoy first photos

last photo shows a second posibility for attaching the lipo
vector-unit with the prop is the new one!

Space Shuttle

i find out, that long slim kites are best for 2-D-flying. so i looked in my kitebox and find a Space Shuttle made by newtechkites: item 55705, size 88cm x 124cm. i will make testflights during the next weeks, enjoy first shoots:

2-D speedkite

...working on a new 2-D kite based on the shape of an traditional stunt kite.
...see first pictures of the basic kite
kite name is "leon", manufacture "spiderkites", size: 97cm x 94cm
..last weekend i add my 2-D unit to the "leon" and made first test flights (without changeing anything on the frame).
...seems to be a new winner, the vector-leon-shape shows great flight characteristics
....will add more photos soon!

the leon is only avaiable in a set of three kites, so i like to build three vector-kites with little differences!
