71" AJ Slick Gas - First time with gas

I have decided I am going to build a 71" 3DHS AJ Slick with a DLE 30 for power. I currently fly all nitro planes in the .40 - .60 range. I am trying get a parts list together and need some help deciding what I am going to use for batteries and switches. I think I am going to use a Hobbico Hydrimax 4.8v 2000 mAh AA pack for my ignition. Is this a good choice? I figure I can use a normal switch from MPi with the charge just built in. Is that correct or do I need a better/different switch? As for the reciever battery I have no idea what battery and switch combo I want to use. I guess I am looking for ideas from you guys. I'm going to be using a Futaba 6108SB reciever and Hitec HS-985MG servos. Thanks for the help!

You don't need a 2000 mAh battery on ignition....you can use a 1100 if you wish....but a 2000 will work.....
Please get an optic kill switch as a back up.....it will let you kill the engine through the ignition by a flip of a switch...Throttle kill is how mine are set up....it also seperates the igintion from the system...and will kill the engine with a loss of power.....
So with a kill switch you can kill the motor with the kill switch or trim, and if you were to elect to use a choke servo then you can kill it a 3rd way through the choke

Do you already have the 985"s?
Digital servos hold center better and seem to have less potential for interference from the ignition. 130oz of torque is enough for your plane and digital servos are available for less than the $70 you'll pay for the 985 analogs with the same speed.
A 2S1P A123 or LiFe is a good choice for Rx/Sx power, no need to run a regulator and are lighter and stronger than NiCd/NiMh batteries with better hold time on the shelf (charge on Monday, good thru Monday nest month if the weather gets bad).
MPI HD switch is good for Rx and servo power.

Same here.

71" Orange gas assembly. Slow but, sure.

Is anybody using the hitec 5665 servos? I'm thinking about using them on mine with an unregulated lipo for power.

Those servos should work. I just do not like the 5 series Hitecs on control surfaces due to the lack of centering accuracy.

How'd that 71" AJ Slick build go? I will be building the same exact setup soon.

What servos did you go with?

Like it?

Just finished my slick a month ago and I got all of my electronics from Rich at WrongwayRc. Went with a smart switch with dual power out leads, a single 2300mah A123 to power everything, an optical kill switch and a voltage reducer going to the ignition module. Light, works flawlessly and the A123 can be charged literally in 5-10 minutes.

As far as servos, I went with HS 5645's but I will probably change them for some Savox servos later in the year. they work fine but the centering is so so.

Call rich...awesome guy!

BTW...the Slick with DLE 30 is a fantastic airplane!!
