It probably has a Great Planes "heritage", but it's manufactured by the Cheng Yang Model Factory - they trade as CY Model. I think they are a fairly new outfit as there does not seem to be many dealers about. Here's a link to the model on their website: http://www.cymodel.com/Cn/pro_view.a...09&cid=8&scid=

Indeed, the SBD catches my eye as the basis for a great scale project

Man, the only way I would fly that DR1 is if I built it from scratch. It is a beaut.

I hate to be the one to go and stray a little off the main topic, but i'm kind of curious how the heck the DR1 gets off the ground when 90% of the prop is right up against the cowl like that.

Wouldn't it seriously reduce the thrust, not being able to allow the air to flow down the plane and over the control surfaces?

Yep, I suspect that was just one that got shoved on for the photo shoot, although alot of the work of a prop is done in the last 15% of the blade o/a prop speed: http://www.free-online-private-pilot...odynamics.html

Here's the DR1 in action:

1/3 DR-1 Maiden (4 min 23 sec)

Where would someone store that bird? You would need a garage. Wow.

If you think that is big there is someone building a 257" wingspan B-36D bomber of on Flying Giants that has to be in 7 pieces just to get to the field.
