And anyway, from her point of view you are only 'playing with your toys'. Shopping, on the other hand, is a matter of life or death. If you are a woman, that is.

About to finally do it

So I was about to order parts for my NQD, and this is what I came up with, let me know if I am on the right track?

Cooling jacket

The Controller and battery will come later, just getting these parts now so I can start the modifications. Water here is frozen till April anyways.

Scratch built 24" V hull Jet boat

Yellow Boat Hull 3

The hull is 4 inches longer than Yellow Boat 1 the keel is fiberglass and epoxy as are the chines, everywhere else its hot glue. Much cleaner hull then the earlier boats but still a bit ugly.
These hulls are tough as, run them into rocks do what you like they just flex. I suppose they would fail at the seams when they do, that's why I glassed in the keel.

The ride plate is glassed in on the inside so its really stiff, as the pump is all outboard I have recessed the transom to hide it away a bit. Its a big jet unit.

Room for 2 X 11.1V 2200mAh 20C batteries in parallel should deliver up to 80 + Amps. Ran this on test over 2 Kgs of thrust on a 3C @ 54 Amps

Turnigy 450 H2218 Brushless outrunner 2100KV with homebrew water cooling added, big bore pipes just because that the brass I had in stock.

Hobbyking SS Series 90-100A ESC with a water cooling plate added its an overrated ESC so should do the job easy. Will need a BEC I have a 5A in stock also.

Put a prop on it

Put a prop on it

Prototype and general knockabout boat Yellow Boat (hull 1) with a pusher aero prop aero hybrid drive system 365 Grams thrust 9.6 Amps

Floater-Jet Replacement Motor (AXN-2208-2150)
RPM/V: 2150kv
Max Watts: 180w
Max Amps: 20A
Max Volts: 11.1 (3s)
Turns: 16t
Resistance: 0.085Rm
Magnet type: N45SH
Idle Current: 1.52A
Shaft: 3mm
Weight: 44.0g
Suggested Prop: 5x5 / 6x4

P2632 Brushless Outrunner 3800kv
Battery: 2~3 Cell /7.4~11.1V
RPM: 3800kv
Max current: 32A
No load current: 11.1V/3.2A
Internal resistance: 0.036 ohm
Weight: 51g
Diameter of shaft: 2.3mm
Dimensions: 26mmx32mm
The NQD delivers 950 Grrams of thrust with this motor on a 11.1 V Lipo

Pusher only no steering but still planes

Hull still planes with 365 Grams of thrust from the aero prop only. The jet delivers 950 Grams btw.

Boat's looking good though, needs a few bobble heads and a cage though I really like the speed... I can feel a new build coming on myself...

Nitrohead, well done on building your own. I would never even think of taking on a feat like that! Any pics of it?
some pics of my scratch built hull. No, its not straight, yes it is rough. BUT i works and is bloody strong!!!! Bring on the rocks!!!!

These pics aren't the lastest, will get some more up once iv put things together a bit more. Have almost finished the top deck so thought id weigh it just with a 1700mah 2s lipo. 550 grams! But that's total weight without a motor. The motor weighs 153 grams so a total of 700-750 grams aint too bad. Or is it?

Looks like my pattern

That will be a really seaworthy hull I play with my Coroplast design in the surf and have only capsized once.

Yellow Boat weighs around 750 Grams at launch with a 2200mAh lipo

The weight for your boat should be good should go well. Looks around 20" like Yellow Boat

I measured the thrust from an NQD unit the other day and got 950 Grams of thrust on 11.1V with a P2632 3800kv motor pulling 34 Amps, around 375 Watts

Weight / Watts = 4 Grams per Watt
Thrust / Watts = 2.53 Grams per Watt (which is a bit like and EDF jet in air)

This is what my design is a homage to btw yours is similar

You scratch builders are living my dream. If I had a bit more time on my hands I'd be building boats from scratch all the time.

I've wanted to build an aluminum hull jet drive RC boat longer than I knew there were RC pumps. Thanks for sharing them.

My ultimate RC goal is to someday build a jetdrive powered hydrofoil.

From what I've gathered from others here, it seems that the best KV is between 2000 and 3200 or so. And run on 3 cell. When you start getting up into the ducted fan motors, like the one you listed, you will be forced to use 2 cell, and it might not have the performance you'd be wanting.

I was not able to find a HK motor I wanted at the time, so I went to Ebay, got a 2100(apprx?). I'm happy with it, but if I was to do it all over again, I'd try to find a 3000 for more speed in the lakes. The 2000 range motor is very adequate for rivers as far as I'm concerned.

I wonder would the hydrofoil need some kind of foil angle control system? like a plane or are they fixed?

I want to build an Ekranoplan half plane half boat

The Russians build such cool things Rostislav Alexeyev

I have tired up to 4200kv on a 3C which was too fast for the NQD In think
My 3800kv runs well on a 3C I think (know) that there is a limit to the amount of water you can force though the nozzel of the NQD

On a bath test the 3800kv moves water well and primes Ok at full speed if you lift the inlet clear and re-immerse it.

Also the power level is good at 375 Watts drawing 34 Amps the 3800kv is the bets motor I have run an the NQD jet pump I think.

I have a larger unit 30mm home made with a 2100kv its a bit of an unknown quantity , initial testing is encouraging with lots of thrust and with the lower RPM there is scope for more batt cells
