No, canards are not functioning. Here is the description:
The Hobbyking Rafale EDF is an excellent, high detail EPS kit of the unique Delta Wing French fighter, which includes features such as, highly detailed, moulded panel lines and scale ordenance, fixed under-carriage if required (also suitable for hand launching or electric retracts - not included), high speed 70mm 4 blade fan unit and a removable fan cover. The battery compartment has plenty of room for a wide choice of Lipoly batteries and a flat canopy underside that does not restrict the depth of the compartment. This jet is a nice size, big enough to have presence in the air, small enough to be easily transported. Specification: Wingspan: 750mm Length: 1045mm Height: 305mm EDF: 70mm Includes: Optional Fixed Undercarriage Hardware pack 70mm Fan Unit Decal Sheet Required: Your own Tx & Rx (elevon mixing required) 2200mah~3000mAh 11.1v 3s~14.8v 4s Lipoly 28mm EDF motor to suit 3.17mm shaft 40A~60A ESC 2~3 9g Servos 1 x 30cm Ext Lead 2 x 45cm Ext Lead * Please note, the canards are fixed for ease of set up and flying. |

.
This is a great airframe that could handle high load so there is no issue with adding the eflight e-retracts :-) that would be awesome. And wow I love the light EPS foam :-) . |

Take care in the front area where the nose meets the intakes, this is where it snaps off at almost the drop of a hat, if you're going to use retracts it'll fly ok I believe as the wing will carry pretty much what you put on it with a bit of reinforcement but I'd recommend some stringers embedded through the front fuse to lock it all in. I've rebuilt one a few times fro a friend, now it sports a f-35 nose melded to the main wing part thats left. EDF removed and pusher added? He's happy and it works for him now...

also, HK states the use of optional electric retracts, yet none of the pictures even show where ANY of the landing gears mount. Is there even enough room to carve out foam for the Etracts? Im very interested in this one but would like more info before i buy it. |

the delta wing with canards jet, like this rafale, gripen, typhoon, j-10 or even the mirage, is perfect for e-retracts and small field. 1/ airframe has great lift but draggy though. 2/ no issue carry extra load of retracts 3/ can take off and land with shorter field with high alpha. 3/ look great in the air doing low speed, high alpha pass ;-) . |
