Boz, the fantail came out at 14 inches, from the bow to back to 2/3 of the length is the same bottom shape as the regular Salty, Boz ,i have a question for you, since you have worked with epoxy resin/glass, have you ever experimented with lost foam process to make a small hull ? i know the process for making a plug then a mold, but if only one hull is wanted seems like over kill

Lauan

Hi guys,

What about using lauan for the barge? I swung by the big box store today, a 2' x 4' piece is a little over $5.00. It's marked 1/4" thick. I didn't have a tape with me, but it looks closer to 3/8 to my eye. I thought it might be a good inexpensive choice of material for building the barge. The center core seems pretty hard, but I plan to clamp, glue and use glass and resin on it. What do you think? Any good?

Sounds good to me, as long as you can work it and give it a good water proofing, i think it will come out fine. We got really busy at work the last couple of weeks so i haven't started a barge yet, but i picked up a can of plasti dip spray to coat the hull when i do get around to it.
