This is about the best magazine I've bought in years, and if you have an interest in full size aviation (and WW 2 types in particular) you betta hot-foot it down to your nearest book seller now, or you'll miss out. Courtesy of this issue is shown a photo of Willy Messerschmitt, taken circa WW 1, with propulsion looking like a 3 cylinder compressed air motor. Hope you can read the Johnson test on the end. It applies to the first series "light case" Johnson's.

Interesting Bob, I just checked my 35 and it's got that "sail" too. Oh yeah, and welcome back .

Only very rarely can you catch an engine with its trousers down. This split-case FOX 19 was found in a compromising position with a FOXy lady....

A VERY RARE AND UNUSUAL (1980's VINTAGE ?) DREMO "3.5f, FSR, ABC" 3.5 cc, GLOW MARINE MODEL ENGINE, BY Hans Drenkhahn, IN THE OLD EAST GERMANY / DDR. MAYBE DESIGNED FOR FSR MULTI-RACING, THE HORIZONTAL MOUNTING WOULD MAKE FOR A VERY LOW PROFILE.

Several times previously on this thread, I've confessed to being a gadget freak, and have submitted photo's of some of my collection. Recently on eBay, a new and interesting gadget which I had not seen before, was offered for sale. I contacted the seller who turned out to be none other than the highly regarded modelling journalist Dick Sarpolus. I am pleased to firstly show some photo's of the actual item, designed primarily for C/L stunt, followed by a short article by Dick on the guy who designed it, Walt Hughes.

Comparison of an early 1960's (middle photo, top row) Red Head MERCO 35, with the later (circa 1970's) Black Head MERCO 35. Note they changed (why I wonder ?) the crankcase die to "square off " the area around the backplate. Different prop drivers too, as well as throttles. Next 4 photo's show yet another MERCO variant (the "Black Streak" 29) with the earlier prop drive, the later "squared" backplate and a totally different carb, the circa 1970 "Microflow". Last 2 photo's, possibly a Premier Plastics 29 (or Forest Engineering ?)

Fine collection indeed. One remark, that large Wankel engine was sold by Graupner but NOT made by OS. And the last one I intended to buy went for more than 1650$ !

Vega 91

This one is for sale. Entirely cleaned, does turn round ok, I do'nt feel much compression. It is guaranteed to run but how strong I do not know. I am NOT a big fan of these sidevalve Vega engines. Be aware of the fact that Vega engines do not use valve seat inserts ! something that has always amazed me.
