Obviously, the rods can't be on the same crank-pin (I had a "senior moment"!).

Yes. And pretty difficult to make a crank this way. Has to be very hard steel to avoid "bending". Typical failures (to me) are fe the FMO twin or the Craftsman twin. The Hiness twin as well. Did have those engines. Wonder how he did those conrods however.

I did also forgot about the crankcase compression .

OS Max 60-H


Fiddling with this twin reminded me of the fact I am still in need for a Max 60-H
piston, have a near-new Blackhead lying about without piston. Will pay a good price for one and may be used, ring is no problem.

Saito FA 30 4-stroke MKI & MKII


Are there any other difference between MK I & MK II, aside from the rocker arm, MK I Cast alum, MK II machined steel?. Why did they changed to steel rocker arm?
The cast rocker arm seems more appealing to look at. Any info or comments much appreciated.

Don't think I posted this one, it's a brute. 25cc made in Italy about 79 or 80.
I would have to go and look again but this has a very low serial # and not mant were made.
This company has been in business since and specializing in high performance boat engines.

Just think : what is more delicate and prone to break ? Those high positionned alu rockers or the much lower compact steel ones ?

Irvine 61RLS


I managed to pick up a NIB Irvine 61RLS off the bay and it arrived yesterday. Now I have the big brother to my 40RLS .

Looking at the parts list it's obvious the RLS is quite different to the standard 61R in much the same way my 40RLS is different to the 40R by using a mix 'n match from other engines. The RLS uses the crankcase from the 61R but the head, piston/liner, wrist pin and gasket set are peculiar to the RLS. The con rod, crankshaft and wrist pin circlips all come from the Irvine 72. Sometime soon I'll be stripping it down to take some measurements to compare with my (also new) Dykes ringed Irvine 61R which is on the left in the photo.

Carlo, the model with RC carb (Enya 19-IV TV) was tested by Peter Chinn in A/M January 1969.
Would that be of interest? I can scan it, no problem.
