I had a STELS 049 that had the same type of exhaust ports. I don't think they made any larger engines though.

Here is myy Stels .049. The tolerance on the crank was so bad that it would not run evenly. I had to make up some bushings, and it is a strong runner. My Rossi Normal and piped had no tether hole. They are likely Mk 1. One was from pylon racer, the others were F2A speed. I flew between around 1976 to 1980. I can't recall needing a tether on the motor, although maybe there was something about the bellcrank on the pan? IDK, that was a while ago. My Supertiger .15 RR has no hole, and it was probably after the 1967 model shown, as it has provisions for a muffler/pipe. I likely got it in the early 1970s, it may have been used though. The F2D combat needed a tether for a while, but the shutoff thing is fairly recent, maybe less than 10 years. There was a muffler rule at 8mm outlet, then 6mm, but the early ones had no muffler at all.

Yes they made the combat 15-and an even larger 36 for the US combat market-though I don't think many of the latter were made...or sold. As well they made an 061 for F1J but these became known for breaking shafts-and saw little use as a result.... There are actually about 3 variants-the classic 'russian ' style 'two horns' exhaust version, the 'straight across' exhaust style pictured above, and the 'half right' semi rear exhaust version-though not all Stels engine sizes had these variations-I've only ever seen the 061 in 'half right' exhaust format.... Mystery Dykes Rings....
Among other bits, a bag of Dykes rings crossed my path, thereby saved from the bin......or more correct, saved from the bin so far.....
Age: With very few exceptions, the other bits of this "lot" are 50 years old or more, hence my feel that also these rings are of pretty early date. Dimensions: Outer diameter: Springs nicely against the 21.2 mm vernier setting. Height: About 1.1 mm (See photos) After spending some time on research, the closest possible match I've found so far is the OS 40 SR (Rear induction, side exhaust, about 1973-74). NB: These are still just speculations, and I may well be wrong here though, hence this post..... Any thoughts...? Should anyone need a ring for comparison and measure, please let me know, and I will send one. I just want these rings to find good homes rather than beeing binned once again, eventually..... |

I had no idea they made the larger engines. These are the 2 I had but recently sold. |

Stels made 2.5cc combat engines, I have a pair. They also made .36 but I've only seen a couple listed on Ebay over the years.
I posted my 1/2A Stels a while back. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...ostcount=14710 |
