Seeed studio shop has units available back in stock since today.

We are working on the next (larger) batch already, but will likely take a couple of months at least to have new units available once this stock is exhausted.

Many thanks.

Thanks for your interest, will keep you posted.

I'm working hard to get a beta batch for 2.4Ghz available in late April - early May, but based on current international stock backlog in certain components, I suggest to get a 433Mhz unit now in Seeed shop in order to apply for one of the early 2.4G beta modules.

Ok, ordered a 433 unit. Can I sign up for the 2.4ghz beta?

RF Explorer PC Client source code and RS232 communication protocol with currently supported commands is available at http://code.google.com/p/rfexplorer/ for hackers and advanced users who wish to extend current functionality on their own.

Probably open up a few more sales if it can show detail enough so that older FM radios can be tuned to the receiver's crystal.

Do you mean 72Mhz, 40Mhz, 35Mhz, etc? I'm concentrated in ISM bands first, then additional bands such as that of 1.2Ghz video and perhaps lower FM bands specific to RC may come next.

exactly. 75 72 50 45 40 35 27 mhz
are your traditional R/C frequencies around the world when not dealing with 2.4ghz or 5.8ghz

I think is a great suggestion. I will evaluate a 10-100Mhz expansion module which could cover all these bands at once.

Thanks

New firmware available - v1.06 - beta 01

Hi all,

The new Beta 01 for upcoming v1.06 release is available in the download site.

Additional documentation will follow in an specific article at www.rf-explorer.com . Please read below a summary of added features and a few introductory screenshots. Any question let me know.

Note the new RF Generator Sweep mode was requested by an user for a specific research project unrelated to FPV. Nevertheless, it can be very useful for LRS pilots who wants to challenge their system under test: the RF Generator Sweep will act as a frequency jammer in the configured band, and you can test how well your LRS behave in such a challenging scenario. A very dynamic LRS FHSS will likely survive, whereas a poorer designed one will almost certainly failsafe most - if not all - the time.

RF Generator Sweep in action (monitored from another RF Explorer unit):

Note new icons for power source (USB or battery) and also info on Sweep/second on the screen - in above example it was 5/s or 5 per second.

Same signal with an increasingly wider span. The jamming band is clearly visible:

New configuration screen for RF Generator, including new Sweep options:

=============================== Version change list ===============================

* A new Sweep RF Generator feature is available in the RF Generator mode.
There are options to select frequency step, number of steps and time
each step will transmit before jumping over the next one.
In this new mode, the RF Generator frequency is considered the start
frequency.
To transmit a single continuous wave (tone) select steps=1.
This has been tested in 433M units only, but should work in all models.
* Improved battery info on screen, it will show you remaining battery in some
additional screens, including RF Generator mode.
Battery icon has been moved to a different position in Spectrum Analyzer mode
to reduce collision with signal display.
* Sweep/seconds information added to Spectrum Analyzer screen.
* Additional protection check has been added to battery status. The firmware will
now clearly display a LOW BATTERY message on screen and shutdown MCU and RF modules
to reduce energy consumption when lipo is reaching a 3.2V limit. This is a safety
status where the unit can be stored many hours without shortening battery life, but
the user is advised to power off the unit with power switch or recharge ASAP to avoid
impact in lipo lifetime.
* <left> and <right> buttons in Spectrum Analyzer mode have been modified to update
center frequency by a 1/4 of span, not 1/2 as in previous version.
* Spectrum Analyzer mode now has increased sensitivity up to -120dBm limit, thanks to
finetuned management of RF section, which added about 10dBm to the dynamic range.

Very cool product. Any chance of a 5.6ghz version after the 2.4 is released?

Hello all,

Ariel,
I just receive the RFExplorer unit, it is working good.

But I would like to sweep a spectrum between 433MHz and 444MHz.

Is it possible to change the firmware to allow for this?

Or even increase to 430-450MHz ??

Still, a nice unit to have in our hobby shop

Sure, our current roadmap is:

1) 2.4Ghz module, beta testers should have it available in May
2) 250-940Mhz wideband module, available at some point before summer
3) 1.2Ghz or 5.6Ghz, based on community interest, after summer

Cheers,
Ariel

Hi, welcome to RF Explorer user family

Unfortunately the matching antenna tuning circuit is the limiting factor, together with limited onboard memory to cover more than a 10Mhz span. The recommended option is to wait for the 250-940Mhz wideband module, it expands internal memory and have a special wideband tuned balun.

Regards,
Ariel

And if we can change the central frequency (but continue with a 9000 freq span) in order to use for instance 434~444MHz sweep ?

This would allow me to check all the frequencies covered by my LRS .
