Mega Dart all lit up

Figured I'd add a few pictures of the Mega Dart with the lights on. Gonna be a nice night flyer with over 250 LED's in it.

Still need to add some pinstripes to it and get the graphics made for it. Other than that, its pretty much done.

Time to clean up the shop and start on my big Pitts biplane.

This one is a 60" span, with a 14" chord (plus the ailerons). I dont think the lights added much weight, at least nothing to worry about. Maybe a few ounces, but nothing too significant Im sure. I will run them off a seperate small 3S battery when Im flying at night.

That looks great! So did you put clear led's in side the wing and cover it? What kind/color covering? I want to steal your Idea!

Thanks for the compliments. I used white Turnigy self adhesive LED strips. They come in 1 meter segments, with 60 lights per meter, that you can split apart every 3rd LED and solder a wire between. I use servo wire to make the jumpers. They weigh about 10g per meter and I ended up with about 4 meters worth inside of this one.

The covering is just normal old Monokote on top, and Oracover on the bottom. Its not excessively bright, but the softer color makes it look nicer I think. If you wanted REALLY bright you could use the transparent covering.

Yeps. Pink. There's a good reason for it, you'll see soon enough.

You are bringing this one to SEFF, right? I'd love to see how it looks at night. I'm thinking of putting the same LEDs in a white T-28. Some of my other night flyers have the lights mounted externally and they are really too bright and you can't "see" the plane's shape. I like your idea of internal lighting so that the whole plane shows up.

Yeps, I'll have it at SEFF. I took it outside last night in the dark dark and it will be VERY easy to see. Should be a fun flyer. Once I get a chance to do the maiden I will finish up the "decorations".

Oh, Cynjon, the power system is a Castle ICE HV, 6S 3200s and a cheapo Turnigy G60 outrunner I found at the LHS. Figured I'd give one of these "low cost" motors a shot.

I've been pretty happy with the Turnigy motors, Laine. They are pretty solid, although not really 'high performance'. The red ones are pretty hot, though!
