How hot is too hot for motor?

My corona has an atomic force motor, CC35 esc and 8 cell hrsc-2600 batts. I don't have an amp meter so after lots of research on AF timing. I set my timing to about 12 degrees. I have a heat sink on my motor. After 9 mins of hovering - the battery and esc are cool and the motor is cool enough to touch for about 5 secs before it burns my hand. I want to know how much heat is too much and what would be considered normal.

I think that's fine. Too hot is "can't hold for more than one second".

If I remember correctly, the two-second ouch is about 150F.
You're at the five-second ouch so it's way below that.

My Mega 16/15/3 feels pretty hot after 7-8 minutes of hovering too. I can touch it, but it is hot. The 8C 1700 nicad pack and 35 amp CC ESC are cool. The weather here in the northeast is hot and humid too which doesn't help. I guess hot is normal?

If you're worried about heat you can gt the B40 heatsink and put it on the Mega. Both fxaeromodels and icare-rc carry them for $15 I think.

Toshi- That is great information. I will need to see how thik the heat sink is as there is not much room between the motor and the crutch plate on the Corona.

Thank you for the input, Gil

The heat sink is pretty big, so you will need to cut/shave down some of the fins.

I got an 11:38 flight on the Corona today on the Mega
