Sorry for posting another topic about the champ vs mini cub but my questions have not been answered yet. ok so i am looking to buy the champ or the mini cub. my first opinion was the champ but than i talked to my local hobby store and they said the champ is just to small and cant handle winds and that i should get the mini cub. so i came home and started researching both. i think the mini cub would be a little bit faster and easier to fly in the wind so i was thinking about getting it but then i have read alot about how the mini cub sometimes has problems when you first get it and you have to adjust them. i also read that the mini cub is not near as durable as the champ. so i am really stuck between the too. the champ seems like it is too easy to fly but is really durable and the mini cub seems like it would be good to fly but is not very durable and can have problems that you need to adjust. if you could please help me and give your honest opinion i would appreciate it!

I would either go with the champ or the full sized Super Cub. With the mini you don't get the stability of the larger cub or the crash resistance of the smaller champ.
I've flown all three and the mini is my least favorite. While it's true that the Champ can't handle much wind, you shouldn't be flying in much as a beginner. When you get better flying it in some wind becomes entertaining.

Cool thanks for your opionion! I have one other concern. Is the champ just to easy and begginer were as i wont learn much from it and i would out fly in really soon? (i have a hobbyzone areobird thats to advanced for me but i was hopeing that i could get a plane that could get me ready for that)

Just because the Champ is "simple" and "easy" does not mean it's not fun to fly.

A beginner needs a plane that's easy....but more than that one that is FUN and not frustrating. The Champ is all that and more! The champ is barely heavy enough to damage itself in a crash and is SO easy to transport safely in it's box.

No matter what you start with, you will feel ready to move on to something else once you learn the basics. You will always have a special place in your heart for that first plane....even if you don't fly it for a while your "Old Champ" can live safe in it's box, just waiting for nostalgia to strike you!

The mini cub sucks in my opinion, it uses the same servo configuration as the ultra micro aircraft though about 2-3 times bigger, which isn't needed for something that big. And my experience is the electronics suck and are out dated on the Mini.

ya the mini is not nearly as good as the champ. the champ flies fine and yes you still learn when flying it. imo there is no such thing as a plane that is 'too easy' that you don't learn anything. a lot of people say you should get the full size super cub after if you want a larger plane but thats not taking any steps forward. they both teach the same basic steps and fill similar roles(one for larger space the other for small spaces).

You might want MORE planes later, but I've never grown so tired of a plane as to sell it. Even if you go out and buy/fly bigger 4 channel warbirds or sailplanes later, it's always fun to have something you can fly around the front yard.

This is the video that made me get a Champ... what a great little plane!

Local Hobby Shop around here won't even carry the mini-super-cub, it's too fragile and can't handle the same wind the champ can.

I dunno..I have a mini cub and love it. Thing has crashed so many times and still flies and goes back together. I feel the champ is too small to fly in any wind...comparing this to my UM-28. I enjoy the mini cub in high winds 10 mph no problems. Sure the radio cuts out every now and then, but its just a pulse. I really enjoy my mini cub. I do plan on getting a champ to see what all the hype is about tho.


I recommend the mini cub for beginners, as you are a beginner. not everything has to be perfect. For me ability to enjoy it more than often won.

I think you will like the Champ.

31.75" Super mini cub wing span and weighs 7 oz.
20.3" Champ wing span and weighs 1.3 oz.

The Super mini cub has 1.6x the wingspan but is 5.4x the weight.

So... the Champ should be able to fly quite a bit slower than the cub. Slow flight is good for beginners until their thumbs react instinctly instead of intellectually.

-10 Mini cub. (junk) not a good breeze handler either. Radio TX sucks, power is weak, battery time is 3-4 min. cardboard wing tends to fold after a handful of flights.

Champ stock battery will run about 8-10 min and has more bite for it's size. As you get more comfortable, you can increase the throws and this thing can get pretty wild. TX will work with all other parkzone/e-flite micro BNF planes and copters too.

you have 1500 posts and make this..All i care to ask is how long have you owned your mini cub? Mine lasts for 10 minutes no problems..and handles wind. I really don't get all the hate towards this model. If i buy this champ it better leave gold powder everywhere it goes by the way everyone compares it to the great cub.
