ultra micro fpv set

I've been interested in putting a micro fpv system on one of my micros for a while.
Just now I found a set for $130, with some soldering required:

http://www.fpvhobby.com/96-8ghz-micro-combo-set.html

I am totally inexperienced fpv, so i figured i'd ask someone who isn't:
Is this a good deal? it looks like it could be frustrating to solder, but i don't really know? also, what kind of range could I get with this system? the power output looks kind of low. maybe i could swap the tx out for this one:

I LOVE that setup (only used the 200mw version)
Range is about 700meters with the stock antennas, much more with better antennas and diversity.
Soldering wasnt too hard at all, if your not too great id probably get someone to do it, if you want to do it go and buy a cheap soldering iron with a small tip, like $30 from an electronics shop.
The camera fairly narrow, if your going to use it on a parkzone ultra micro then you dont really have much choice but if its a larger airplane then dont get that camera and you'll save a bit of cash, sn555 or rcv922 are very nice cameras if you want to spend $60+ on a nice camera.

Ive got this TX on my funjet at the moment, also a flying wing, parkzone micros...

Check out some of my vids if you wanna see the preformance

That does look cool. I would like to see what kind of video quality this has. My parkzone p-51 would barely fly with my 16 gram keychain camera but this is only around 3 grams.

I think RangeVideo has the same 5.8 VTX unit cheaper.

I put the same VTX and camera on my Parkzone Ultra Micro P-51 Mustang.

This was with a different camera than the combo in the OP

Wow, this looks very promising
thanks for all the answers guys

@ teamwoody,
thanks for the tip, it's WAY cheaper at rangevideo
I also found that i could get a more convenient rx and cam there too
$105 total instead of $120-something

@ chancesAU,
it said on range video it had up to 2km of range, but i definitely expected that to be a bit... hopeful
when you say 700m, do you mean 700m of usable, good quality video, or 700m until it cuts out altogether?

also, how much did the other camera (on the hk miniswift) weigh?

Finally, I need a display for under $60
I would prefer dirt cheap video goggles, but i don't know if even terrible ones go for that little.

@evilexplorer

You get the 200mW variant from RV as others posted. Note though that the modules from RV use different frequencies.

If you look at the vidoes, you see tons of interference which is so typcial to 5.8Ghz video in FPV use. You can get rid of this by using a different set of antennas. Check this thread out:

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1377130

The cloverleaf / skew planar wheel combo will blow you away. NO MORE disturbance, no interferences no nothing. Just stable video.

@chancesAU, way cool to fly from your balcony! How do you handle landing? Was not so clearly visible from the video....

I have a friend who can confirm seeing video at 3km, this was an autonomous flight so the video was just there for range testing but with a patch antenna and tracker I believe this system would have a very nice range.

I Have flown around my local park and noticed the video becoming a little broken in turns which were approx 500meters away but still very flyable.

The camera I used was a ccdkiller type camera, not sure of the weight but it would have been around 20-40 grams perhaps with the big lens?

Id save up for a set of fatsharks for sure ... or make sure whatever you get has a resolution of 640x480.

I just looked at the FOV of the 1g cam that goes with the tx. 60
so...
does anyone know of a 1-2g camera with a larger FOV, or a wide angle lens for something that small?

I would like to know if this is the best 1 gram camera as well.

Are you guys running a separate 1s video battery?

Thanks Its just a minidv camcorder, Sony DCR-PC55E to be exact, was a couple of hundred dollars from Ebay. Also need a firewire port on your computer to copy the video across, bit of a pain but there is no compression in the video
