My Stinger arrived this week and it looks beautiful.

Nice to have a set of instructions with info on C of G, ballast sizes, and settings for thermal cruise and speed modes.

There is no mention of flaps linked to ailerons or snap-flap.

Any thoughts?

I would start with 33% flaps to ailerons.
Interestingly, the setup sheet on my Extasy calls for NO flaps mixed to ailerons in thermal mode.
I tried this, and it seems to work fairly well, you may try that.

You're on your own for the snapflap....

Thanks target,

I normally use about 33% flaps to ailerons and none in thermal mode as you don't need a fast roll rate.

It's the snap flap that I was trying to get a handle on.

Otherwise, it's the long way round of trial and error but hopefully not too much error.

Many thanks.

Is that both up and down?

I tend to bring in snap flap only with the last 20% of elevator so it should not be too disastrous if it goes wrong.

peter - not that I have a Stinger, but I would suggest that having snap coming in at the last 20% of the elevator is missing almost all the benefit of it. The wing will have less drag if it has a little camber introduced when it is a higher angles of attack - hence why we use snap flap. Try it on a model that you have this 20% set-up, but change it to just being proportional throughout the elevator throw. No fancy curves, just proportional. I think you will experience a really positive difference. There is no danger to it! In fact it makes the wing operate in a safer window from the flick perspective!

+1 to what Z said.
You can turn down your elevator when you add Snapflap, and that's a good thing.
If anything, a 10% delay at the first part of the elevator travel, with the snapflap coming in for the remainder, makes sense to me, to allow for very minor pitch changes.
As he says, you want more camber when operating at a higher AoA on the wing.

snap flap is confusingly named because "snap" sounds like it is some violent procedure to make the model do something it doesn't want to do, but in fact it is just there to reduce drag. It even works in your thermal setting.

Well now,

I used to have my snap flaps linear and on the recommendation of someone else (who shall be nameless) changed them to come in at 80% elevator because "you didn't need them until then".

Have just checked on the Skorp and they are linear. That flies superbly.

Will change the others back and see
Thankfully I just inhibited the programming and did not delete it.

And yes, I use some "reverse snapflap" with down elevator.

4 mm down measured at the flap root, and around 1mm up, if you want.. I dont use up... Ailerons follows flaps.

I did 28 laps today with my stinger in F3b. Very pleased

The model is doing well for me in B. It's nice to fly.
