carbon push rods in teflon tubing for Supra

Gents..(hope this is the appropriate forum)
We are in the process of attaching the stab and rudder push rods in our
booms for a Supra. The supposedly bondable teflon we received does not like
the prescribed method of using CA to stick to the inside of the carbon boom. We are in contact with CST to inquire what might have happened.. In the mean time we are searching for another source.

Just noticed that Barry Kennedy sells just what we need, but his listing did not include lengths.
Question is, has anyone received this from Barry, ?? and what lengths were the carbon rods..? (sorry ..two questions)
.. and a third one, did the bondable teflon tubing work ok..

Many thanks for any response

OR, use the tubing you have and secure it with thinned goop.
Bondable tubing becomes non-bondable as it ages.

A small amount of goop in a jar with thinner, thinned down to syrup consistency.
If on the outside, use a small paint brush to apply.
If on the inside of the boom, thin it bit more and, holding the boom vertical, apply it to the tubing and let it wick down just like CA. I use a metal pushrod and some magnets to hold it to the inside of the boom.

It's not instant bond like CA, but it's very strong and forgiving once dry.

un-etched teflon tubing can be bought here

And LOCTITE 770 primer prepares the teflon to except glue [ca]

NOTE teflon tubing that has been etched [kennedy`s] doesnt stay etched long in fact if its old stock even if will resist gluing .

Its never suggested to etch it yourself but you can if you do a search the info is there.

I bought a roll of teflon and a bottle of loctite and have enough for 20 gliders.

I have also used goop as Dave mentioned but as for myself if I was to use goop I wouldnt use it inside the boom because I just seem to make a mess with the stuff

Dave and DLG... that's terrific.. thanks so much
On the learning curve for this build, this part was the most dissapointing
and left us slightly more bald at the end of the day.

Two more great solutions, and memory bank data from you both.
Thanks .. a gain

Another trick is to wrap the tubing with heavy thread (Kevlar works well for this, if you have it), securing the ends with a tiny drop of CA. You can then glue the thread to the structure.

Hi Waz
I think my build buddy saw your response before I did, I was just over there and he had done exactly as you describe... and it was the cats pyjamas.. I have a lot of faith in PU glue and tried the same test... 10 minutes after, I checked to see the PU has slid off of the teflon and onto the boom, but as it takes about 24 hours to set, we'll reserve final judgement until tomorrow.. but I'm pretty sure your description is what we'll use.
Thank you for that.

Kevin... thank you for the link, and we have put in the order for the the 'real etched'

Man.. we'd be making high tech ashtrays if it wasn't for lads like yourselves in this

Thank You
