BennyLaird: Is that a captured F-80, or something? Wingtip tanks, American style vertical stab.... That framed canopy and the Russian ID number on the nose beat me, though...
PittsLover: That plane is a Stipa Caproni, designed by Luigi Stipa and built by the Caproni factory in Italy, no? (Tube plane.) ~Luke |

beat by the time zone. Had to get some sleep last night benny kept me up till 2 am.
I was going to say..... It's the 1930 Laird LC-DC Speedwing Jnr. When this photo was taken it was powered by a 120 hp Ranger inline, subsequently re-engined with a 165 hp Chevrolair D-6, and later still when acquired by airshow pilot Harold Johnson with a Warner Scarab radial and renamed 'Johnson Rocket'. Designer E M 'Matty' Laird (that's him in the cockpit) went on to create the Solution and Super Solution Thompson/Bendix racers. But now I have to get the books out again. |

There's an AIRBUS behind the Hughes racer, and an Yak-23 behind the Me-262.
A pressurized high altitude Do-17. And the Aviatik ground attack biplane. |
