Having way too much fun with this airplane! Here is a bit of on board video shot at two of my home fields. The second half of the video features air to air action with another Phoenix II. The first half was a day with a lot of thermal activity. The second half was a day blasting with wind. Hope you enjoy it. Don't forget to click the HD button.

CSpaced the Camera is a Contour and was mounted using Velcro straps. A buddy and I are looking into making a pod to mount the camera in. That way the view will not include the prop, and things will be more aerodynamic and better attached.

Ed, Yeah the wind is fun, but not at 30+. Some of my Scale buddies do like to poke fun saying I am flying a beer can cooler. But hey, it is fun, and that is what we all are doing here, having fun.

Is this a replacement for their Phoenix I?
If it is it is an admission that their wing joiner system on Phoenix I was a failure. and anyone owning one should get a refund.

On the Phoenix I the wing roots are held down by 4 screws thru 4 small plastic supports right near the edge of the wing roots.

Oh gee! I wonder what happens if you hit a wing tip on landing??
SNAP!! The foam snaps like a fresh carrot. But gee where? Right where the bloody screws are of course.

Don't buy the Phoenix I, especially from HK. They don't agree it's bad design.

The release of a new model is not an admission that the previous model was bad any more than the release of the 2012 Mustang means teh 2011 Mustang was bad.

Companies release new models all the time. But perhaps you are new to the hobby and are not aware of this.

If you have an issue with the design of the Phoenix I, I suggest you take it up with the MFG or discuss it in a thread about that plane.

If they have discontinued the previous model and no longer use the wing system in the new model then it is fair to assume the old wing attachment was not up to it.

One could assume along these lines too if a 2012 Mustang no longer had the same brake sytem everyone complained about in the 2011 Mustang.

I can verify it was sadly lacking through first hand experience and I am not new to this hobby.

First port of call with a complaint should be with the retailer. He is the one that should be listening to his customers. The manufacturer only serves the retailer

So if you leave the door open on your car, and a truck comes by and hits the door ripping it off its two small screws do you call that a bad design?
