Hobbywing HV 120a/TURNIGY K-Force 120A-HV OPTO 5-12S Brushless ESC

Hey all

Does anybody have experience with this product??? (Hobbywing HV 120a/TURNIGY K-Force 120A-HV OPTO 5-12S Brushless ESC). I have just ordered one and hope it will be more reliable than my old sentilon HV 100a that burned down my mb-339 fuse.

I have used these ESC'S for some time with success but be careful not to overdo it with the amps as they do not like too many

I used these for years, never a problem. Get the programming card, makes life easier.

Where did you find one to order, I need more.?

Thanks a lot

I will be using it with Lee's Hayoe turbax combo with 110a. I really hope it doesn't burn out.

I bought it at Hobby hot for 120 $. Cheapest place I could find.

Thanks for the info.

At first I thought that the Hobbywing version was the exact same as the Turnigy, but now I suspect that they are different. The Hobbywing appears to have a built in BEC, the turnigy doesn't and requires a receiver battery.

I am still going to order a few of them as there is nothing else on the market, price wise, that can compare.

Remember that the programming is different for an inrunner motor, as compared to an outrunner.

I have one operating on 12S at 135A peak. Seems OK so far.

What planes it for?

Hey scalefan, what settings do you use for inrunners with that esc?

I actually forgot as I have several EDF planes, some inrunners and some outrlunners.

Outrunners are high timing
Inrunners are low timing.

I asked the guys at XPS about this, and jim's suggestion was to try diffeent settings.

In additon to timing, I believe that inrunners use a hard strart option. Perhaps some other guys will jump in and comment.

But you have to be really carfull with any ESC, if you get the timing wrong, or the start wrong, the ESC can immediately heat up and destroy itself. I suggest that after the ESC is hooked up, test it out with a battery and transmitter. If the motor does not start turning, or it barks and balks, immediately shut down. Feel the ESC.

Hi Neil, where do you use it? HST or other.
I know "Knife Liddle" is using his with much more amps than 120A....and works fine....

Hi Martin
I'm using it in my Hunter with a Stumax 110-45 and prior to that my Tamjets F-16 with the same fan. I am concerned about another speed controller letting go with my in line is a Jeti spin 200 but I will be using it in something less valuable to me, my ASM Panther.

I just got one of the 150a opto in today and man it looks nice, a little big but nice.

Just rember a few thing about any ESC. I always test with a little 1000mah 40c 3s lipo. This way there is not a lot of power to fry or spark anything, but there is enof power to turn the edf to a decent speed.

Also I read somewere to always program you esc with the smallest lipo possable, this cause less heat and stress in the esc while going throw all those beebs...

Dose any one know how to connect this thing to a computer? It says it USB able.
