1935 Gar Wood Speedster Kit "MISS BEHAVE" now available
Well we have just come back from the Toledo Weak Signals show after driving all day yesterday in some lousy weather to get back to sunny New Jersey. The show while always good to see old friends and old customers with pictures of their models they have built, was a little down in attendance from past years and it showed up also in the number of models in competition. Der Kaptain, get well soon, I missed seeing you there Karl.
The number of airplanes on display was really down with one or two sections of display tables having only two of three models on them. The more we thought about the reasons for the down turn in the turn out for the show I was reminded that one of the reasons is the high price of gasoline which has been going up day by day, when we stopped to fill up the old Suburban. Now the real reason for the update on this thread is to officially announce that the Legend Model Boats award winning model of the 1935 GAR WOOD SPEEDSTER “MISS BEHAVE” , KIT #708, is now available for sale for shipment the beginning of May. Orders were taken at the Toledo show and can be called into M.A.C.K. Products, Monday thru Friday at (732) 870-2966. This as all of the Legend Model Boats will be a limited run of fifty kits per run cycle. Place your order now to be assured a kit on the first run. The price for the kit is $315.00 plus $14.00 shipping in the lower 48 states. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/atta...mentid=3913565 |

Looks really good on the water, that's what I was waiting to see. Are you using two battery packs and the 5045 motor?

ED- Yes I am running two 7.2 volt NI-MH 3300 mil amp batteries in series to net 14.4 volts, to a M.A.C.K. #7300 ESC, and a #5045 M.A.C.K. Marine Motor, direct drive to a #0937/3 propeller. This is all included in the standard power package for the model #702CE.

Thanks for the kind words Aero and Woody!! Wow that sounds like I was watching a PIXAR movie. I was a fun build and it is another of the boats that we have done for the “Boats of the Antique Boat Museum at Clayton “ series.
I think the real fun part for me anyway, is to have the boat perform like the original boat when we take her out for a spin on the lake. I think that even Gar Wood would be happy with the way the model performs. |

Frankg,
I am almost done with the sailboat and will be starting back up on the Gar Wood speedster when completed. I was glad to see how well the Miss Behave performed, I will be using the same motor and battery packs. After doing some more research I finally found another Gar Wood speedster name, it was called the "Miss Me". I still have not decided on a name for my boat. Do you know of any other names besides "Miss Behave", "Miss Conception" and "Miss Chief"? Ed |

The only other name I found was MISS DEMEANOR. I know that the original eleven boats all had MISS names, but I don’t think they even thought of writing them down back then.
I will try to search in the old yacht club records if I can find them when I go to the Thousand Islands this summer for the Antique & Classic boat show. |

GRAVEMAN - YEP! All the epoxy coats and finish coats of the polyurethane was done with throw away brushes. I always use the semi-gloss polyurethane because you can get a better build up because of the fillers in the mix.
The final gloss finish is obtained when you do the final buffing of the finish with the buffing compound. I also wait a week to ten days after the finial coat of the urethane is brushed on before final wet sanding and buffing. You can’t rush a good finish. |
