ME 163, Komet

My scratch built Messersmith ME163 had its maiden flight today.
The prop is to soft, and the sound from the prop is louder than a nitro engine.
The motor is a Turnigy 28-26 1900 with a 25 A ESC and a 8x4 prop.
3 cell 40C 1050 Mha Rhino batt.
Weight is 600 gram (21 ounce).
78 cm span. 51 cm long.
Fiberglass fuselage, and foam wing covered with balsa and oracover.
After I mover the battery forward, it go like its on rails...

Ordered a 28-36 3700 kv for the plane. 65 Amp
34000 rpm med en 4,5x4,5 or 41500 med 4,1x4,1.

Just send from Hobbyking today

ME 163. Maiden flight, with prop flutter. (1 min 54 sec)

I have just fitted the 36/46 motor from Hobbyking into my Komet but not flown it yet. Maybe today as I had to move the mounting back because of the large shaft and prop boss.
Mine is 2900 kv.
I saw this motor fly on another model and it was very good.
Do you need to balance your propellor as it is very loud?
Jim
Sorry the motor I have is a 36/46 Hybrid 2900 kv not as I quoted earlier. Brain fade I think?

Just tested the motor and here are a few figures.

4.7x4.7 prop 38 amps 442 watts 3s
6x4 prop 54 amps 610 watts 3s
6x4 prop 78 amps 1120 watts 4s

Only got an 80 amp ESC so will have to stick with 3s for now.
Looking good.
No RPM readings yet, sorry.

Very cool Komets! The video is great, that thing really moves. I saw pics where one of the full-size Komets had a painted profile of a flea with gas coming out the rear end, and the words "The Farting Flea" were painted next to it. Who says the Germans don't have a sense of humor?

I have a small @25" span foam Me163 kit I still have to build. They are neat little aircraft, and I bet some newer, larger kits of this warbird will come out soon.

Me 163

3 flight with my scratchbuild ME 163.
Now with a 7x7 speed prop.
And 3 cell 1800 40C Mha Turnigy batt.
Weight is 650 gram (22 ounce).

I think it gave 33% more speed

Makes my fully composite live hinged scale 37 in span Komet look good value at 145 dollars plus shipping then. ??
Actually a "Comet" is an airliner, the "Komet" is the rocket fighter.

Hi Jim nice to see you around here: I fell in love with your Komet (I saw in some english magazine and ordered from Germany, only shop who had them at the time).
Mine has a Warp 3t motor (similar to Mega 16/15/3 with 2600rpm/V) and the best prop is 5'5x4'3 (CAM), with this it is quite fast but easy to hand-launch (with 5'5x5'5 or 6x6 is faster but very critical to launch).
Those Warp motors are quite good, can stand abuse (in my Funjet I use the 2t one, 3800 or so rpm/V, with 4'7x4'7 and 3s I have over 600W peaks... fast screamer!).
But many of the cheaper chinese ones are not so good: lots of current drawn, but not so much rpm at the prop end. For my/your Komet I tried no less than three different ones from HK and all where worse than the little Warp... so it stayed. Would like to try a bigger Mega (16/25 for ducted fans maybe).
Anyway as is the Fox Komet is REALLY nice, sounds great and flyes awesome

The motor is now changed to a Turnigy 28-36 3700.

Pull 42 Amp on a 3 cell with a 4,5x4,5 prop, sounds great
Batteri 1800 Mha 3 cell 40-50 C

Weight is now 26,5 ounce.

Found this kit:

You are wellcome Jim
Btw now I am tempted by this kit, can be made glow or electric:

There are interesting pictures of someone's plane with a detachable undercarriage (just like the real thing!). I have to see how to do this on my Fox one!!
Cheers,
Josep

Hi, my Komet has a detachable dolly. I can release it with servo.
If you need details mail me?
It works every time and is more reliable than a hand launch.
