Team30 Micro EDF T-45 BAE Hawk - Ver4

I am so happy to have finally got back to working on my Micro Hawk projects. It's been a year already since I last posted anything on V3 and here we are on V4 after stripping down V3 for desperately needed parts.

I have just completed it and have yet to maiden. I sleeked this latest one out slightly as an experiment in drag changes. I lowered the turtle deck height which followed forward with a lower canopy. There's another change too - it's a 25mm EDF, 12" version!

Construction started with building the base and side walls of the model up. I decided to make a mix of epoxy and micro balloons and line the joins with a triangular seam of it to act as strengtheners and also hold the depron together as the outer joins become wafer thin when the edges are sanded round.

The wing is built up. Depron ribs hold the airfoil shape. There is no spar as the wing will get it's rigidity from the box of the wing.

I applied another mix of epoxy/balloons to the wing join for strength

I installed the BIMRC 25mm edf unit which I fitted with a 10mm 1015 turnigy inrunner and clipped down GWS 30mm rotor with 3 blades removed. I balanced it out extremely well and it runs very smooth.

I mounted an AR6400 board on the base of the turtle deck and mixed into my DX7 so that the elevator and rudder act as tailerons and attached it to the full surface tailerons. I used a 1117 regulator to set the board voltage to 3.3V as I am using the ESC's 5V BEC. Handy if I want to go to 3S.

I closed the turtle deck up and dropped the vertical fin on. It's much easier to paint it first so you don't have to worry about fiddly masking. I also shaped and glued on the nose.

I then painted the model and applied the decal set I made for it using clear decal paper.

I shaped the canopy plug from a balsa block cut slightly oversize and sanded down to fit.

I used a 2 part epoxy syringe packing plastic stapled to a piece of wood to make the canopy. I hit it with a heatgun and let it shrink over the plug. I had to push a bit here and there to get it to conform to the plug.

I made the cockpit base and glued the trimmed canopy to it.

I added the canopy trim using adhesive vinyl cut in strips and trimmed as needed.
Ready for it's maiden!

BIM: not sure if you checked post 2. I used the 10mm turnigy inrunner.

CN: No I didn't. I was working on the aileron version and it was fiddly work. Always changing things on the plan (even this one had to have several changes made as I built it). Then, a year goes by before you even know it happened and here we are.

Mike, I haven't tried your motor in any of the small edf cases as yet.

upscaled one would fly sweet on high power 40...damnit....why did i get rid of that ultrafly hawk???? that would be sweet for a high power 40..... im just not quite into the 30-sub 30 stuff...probably because i dont fly spectrum, so none of that super cool tiny servo crap will work with my radio. dont get me wrong...i love seeing you guys do it....this little hawk of your is like a little piece of art. way too cool....and that guys edf 30 F-86 that he just posted is way cool too.....4 ch!!! crazy stuff.
