Profile B-58 Hustler from "burkefj plans"

I was looking thru the "pusher plans" thread and came accross the B-58. This has always been on of my favorite planes. I got to see 2 of them in person, one a Chanut AFB and the other at the AF museum at W-P AFB.
So I had to do one. Down loaded the plans from POST #158 and set down to piece them together. Next sit down and start cutting out plams. I found some 10 mm depron at Hobby Lobby store and the plans called for 6 mm for the fuse and wings. I figured I go with the 10mm for everything.

More work done

I was able to get all the parts cut up and together. I ran a bunch more carbon rod in the fuselage than what was on the plans. Weighed up all the foam parts and came out to about 14 oz.. I plan to us a LSSPJ and 3s/2200mah battery. I dont know the scale for this plane, I want to get decals from CALI GRAPHICS to dress her up.

One of my favorite jets as well. I'll get to see the one at W/P AFB again in a couple of weeks--can't wait

Best of luck on your jet...

Thanks Sammy, She passed on yesterday. Very hard on wife, we have her dad staying with us for now.
I got the decals ordered from Callie. I will try to get down to the basement today to get her all put together.

Family's a priority, period. If it takes a couple/three weeks to get everything related to your Mom taken care of, no one is going to complain about lack of progress.

Some progress

Thanks byrocat, your right, family first.

I was able to get some time to work on the B-58. Wife spent some time with her daughters.

Glued the wing to the body using white Gorilla glue and a little CA. I got sloppy and didn't look at the verticle stab and when I did finally check I saw that it is a tad out. I my try a little heat at the stab to get it closer to perpendicular. Next i glued the engines onto the wing. Love that shape.
Thats all the time that I had to play. Next I will cut out the control surfaces and due up the motor mount. With the wing at 10mm I was wondering if I should taper the trailing edge or just leave it at 10mm. Any thoughts?

A little more progress

Was able to get some time on the B-58 today. Got the motor mount glued up. Cut out the control surfaces and got one side mounted up. I added a couple of details that I saw on one of the B-58 pic's, adds a litted detail.

Leave flat.

At our speeds, flat 10 mm is stronger. Less nicks also.

For a trailing edge, there is really no great risk of nicks. I'd taper it and only taper the bottom so that you are adding a little bit of reflex in the wing (the way Convair did the real B-58).

A little more progress

I was able to paint the '58 yesterday, My paint booth is my 1/2 bath with exhaust fan. I used Testors Metalic Silver for overall and have some Craft paint Gun metal gray which I used on the nacells and elevons. I will get to do some more painting tomorrow. I need to finish up the windscreens. I have my decals in from CALIE Graphics, so all I have to do is finish painting.

Paint and Decals

I got a little more painting and some decals applied. The decals are from CALIE Graphics. I want to spray the plane with Minwax WBPU clear to seal off the decals and paint.
