I fly things
Micubano's Avatar
I just picked one of these up last week and it is sitting in the closet next to a used SR I picked up and have fixed up and flown twice before the winds and snow hit. It scared me a little to fly, so I went and bought a Nano CP X to get a better feel for CP helis over the winter. I am good at forward flight and all orientations. I can even do some inverted hovering and quick flips. I have been practicing both of the larger helis on Pheonix, but I know that doesn't translate 100% to real world experience. Which model do you guys think would be easier to practice on when the snow melts, the 300 size SR or the 450 3D?

The Blade SR is marketed as being more forgiving and easier to master than a conventional CP heli.

It is marketed that way, but I got it cheap used because the previous owner did not enjoy flying it and I know he is a decent flyer. I did have to make a lot of adjustments to it to get it to hover nicely, but he told me he just replaced most of the parts after a crash and didn't have time to tune it up, so that was expected. Other people I know own the SR have told me that if I can fly that, I can fly anything.

Now that I think about it, I will probably bring both to the field at the same time. Maybe after a few hovers I will settle on one or the other.

TBH, if you get to grips with the 450, I can't see you wanting to fly the SR. I could be wrong tho....

I had both, set up right they both fly well, just different. Take them both to the field. While one is cooling down after a flight you can fly the other.

Me and a buddy just pulled the trigger and ordered Blade 450s from Ampdraw. A little less than $325 shipped for the pair...amazing deal!

Incidentally, the Blade 450 3D is not being discontinued according to a Horizon rep. They are simply no longer offering the BNF Basic (hence the close-out deals). The RTF Package will remain in the Blade model line. This bodes well for sourcing parts in the foreseeable future!

Well parts have never really been a problem for the 400 so I'm not worried about that with the 450 yet.

On the other hand, I wouldn't buy the RTF as I already have a tx. Seems a bit daft to make it the only option available IMO.

Good to hear confirmation about Blade 450 3D not being discontinued.

Seems there's a market for both flybar and flybarless; the first easier for those getting into @ first. Reintroduction of Blade mSR and introduction of Align T-Rex 450 plus rtf are great examples.

Yes!!

Just secured me one today!! I pick it up Friday the 22nd at Atlanta Hobby, total with tax is $181.89.

I was told by my friends who fly helis that the 450 3D should be my next step. Sadly I'm just going to be a boring ole "scale flyer". I have absolutely no desire what-so-ever to fly heli 3D.

A guy came out to the field yesterday with one of these, and I had already seen the ad from Atlanta Hobby, so the bug bit me real good.

Can't wait til next weekend!!!!
