not being crass but I have had good luck calling snhobbies and requesting parts they seem to be extremely helpful willing to go that extra mile for people. like Arnav has said using velcro straps and backing velcro to the batteries works well if it becomes too hard to find the battery door. Also I have seen people on this forum make custom battery doors out of wood.

To hold the battery door when the clips fail. Place a small finishing nail on either side where the foam is thickest and use a rubber band. Been using this for several months and works well. One of my students lost his plastic cover in flight so we just cut out a piece of plastic a bottle will do then use the same method as above. Most definitely velcro batteries down on any bird as they can shift and change the CG.

Arnav-I just checked the age I had entered in Youtube and it appears that I'm already 31!
EDIT: I just was looking around on Youtube and they said that I have to be "invited" as soon as one of my video's reached enough veiws. |

Alex, that is odd becuase I know for a fact I was able to turn it on with no video views at all. You can look at my channel as a proof (it shows the total number of views in the right upper corner I believe). I have been using AdSense for a long time so maybe they are going by total number of views across all channels (which is why I was able to turn it on immediately). I will try tonight with my Son's account and let you know...
Ace, I don't know yet. I just took them out of the box... "unboxing" impression is very good. They are much smaller then what I was afraid they will be for 17G MG Digital Servos (which makes me really happy). I also like that their arms have much bigger holes so there will be no need to enlarge the holes like you always have to do (which is an unnecessary annoyance). They feel heavier (in a good way) than what 17G would feel like but I may be wrong. I like that the wire is really short. It should be perfect for servos that sit next to the Rx where the extra wire is just getting in the way. These are slated for a different Plane so I will probably use them in about a week or two. |

wolfe - The floats were a learning experience. Bottom line is that I had the wing incidence too positive relative to the float (front of the plane too high) and overbuilt the floats and float mount gear too heavy. The plane would fly heavy but fly heavy. So, I think with my limited time now, I'm better off buying some type of foam cub with floats.
I did have fun with the capricorn (original full size version from wattflyer link) and the polaris from rcgroups. |

I have had to retire my Airfield 182 due to hanger rash etc. So I thought you folks may be interested in the Giant 182 when you feel the need to move up or want something bigger. A quick review from another thread that I posted.
73" Scale Cessna 182 Had my maiden today. Winds where all over the place here in the desert. Set all the surfaces tweaked the separate steering channel finalized all the mixes and up she went. Using a 4250 650 KV motor along with the HK 90-100 ESC and turnigy 5 A SBEC and stock prop. Servos are Hitec full size on rear surfaces, HXT900 for flaps x 2 channels Newpower 17g MG BB digital on ailerons from EPbuddy. Replaced stock pushrods with Nyrods for smooth friction free operation to rear controls. Hitec Aurora 9 with Optima9 channel RX. Batteries are Hobbypartz sky lipo 30C 4S 3300. Half power roll out with little elevator and up she goes. No trim required. Flew a few left and right turns on both high and low rates. Engaged rudder mix and headed into the wind which was around 10 mph and choppy along with shifting up to 90 deg. Altitude around 150' Chopped the power and waited for the stall... and waited and waited then got board and applied a little power. The bugger will not stall!. Just kept going forward at about 1 mph with very slight down pitch. So power up to 70% and did a large slow loop, then into high rates and tried a roll then a four point roll with extended knife edge. I have to say I'm very impressed with the flight envelope of this plane. I still need to tweak some of the mixes and throws but other than that a perfect scale flight. First land was standard pattern with no flaps and a dodgy wind. She just settled in nice and solid and is very predictable. Second flight was just a get to know the bank and climb capability along with half then full flap test at altitude. Somehow I had mixed in just the right amount of down elevator with degrees of flaps and was perfect with a slight sink rate. Did a touch and go with 50% flaps no problem then a final landing with 100% flap which I have set at about 40 degrees. Just cruised in extremely slow and a nice sink rate for a perfect landing until the wind did a 90 deg shift on roll out causing the left wing to lift when turning. This is normal for scale type Cessnas so very pleased. I got mine a week ago from Phillip at PW-RC for $205 EMS speed shipped that was ordered Sunday night and arrived that Friday. Due to his great service and prices on the kits and parts I will always try and buy from him as I saved a bunch by not getting it from HK USA. Except for the size which is a bugger to transport and get the batteries into I would give this kit a 9 out of 10. I wish they could have figured a side or top battery compartment. So I will fab a wing saddle box like some of my others for easy transport and flip it on the box for pits and maintenence. Other than the mods made on this thread I did make an exit hole aft of the wing to allow cooling airflow to flow better. This hole also allows access to the inner rear station that the factory push rods are attached to. BIggest negative is the decals that don't stick that well even after removing mold release agents etc. However, a little CA or other glue at the edges cures that issue. Highly recommended kit. |

Aero - I think I understand what you re saying about wing incidence - I guess you would want the floats to line up with the wing incidence for the best performance
Ace - sounds like you are enjoying the "Big Bird". Good for you Wolfe |
