The weather

Is anybody else having trouble flying due to the inclement weather or is it just we Queenslanders? Its been raining since November last year. All I can say is that Kingaroy will be very green; unlike past years where it has been very brown.

2nd thing...is it possible to get a roll call of who made it past D2 and the country/state that you are from? A little info on your platform, where you fly from, whatever would be an interesting read.

Awesome plane - looks well designed & made, and a credit to its creators. Engine size? Autopilot make? Any vices? Well done!

Thanks Anthony. Engine size is 26cc and the autopilot is Paparazzi. No vices so far but lots of work ahead.

We have all the woos

Very kindly the organisers have sent us the list of who got through.

Guys I know you want to keep it all secret but we would love to be able to pad out pages for who's who at each team if nothing else.

Tiaan is handling that this year at sUAS News, he can be found at tiaan@suasnews.com

At the moment Tiaan is flying a Cessna Caravan between islands off Mozambique in the Indian Ocean and the interweb is a touch flakey out there so don't expect a fast response.

Well done everyone that got through.

We think the Outback rocks at sUAS News!

Airborne Delivery Challenge Rules

Well done to all the s&r teams, will be good to see that side of things again this year (although it was good to have the time to tinker and practice without the need for the s&r teams to have the radio space).

Just a questions on scoring the drop. in the 2010 comp the scoring for the drop was a formula of s = ( 10 - d ) * 50 where s is the score and d is the distance from Joe, i know this was for the best drop but the scoring has now gone to: 20 points for <2m, 16 points 2m - 4m 12 points 4m - 6m, etc. This handicaps the team that gets close to point boundaries. eg you get 2.01m - you only get 16points - 4 points less than somone 2mm closer of 1.99m.

I have 3 possible suggestions: first we go back to the formula s = ( 10 - d ) * 20, second we have a 1 point drop for every 50cm or third a sliding scale to reward those deemed close enough - 20points <1m, 19points <2m, 17points <3m, 15points <4m, 12points < 6m, 8 points < 8m, 4 points < 10m.

This resulted from a discussion had with students today discussing the rules. if you had 3 drops just over the points change you would be 16 points behind someone that had 3 drops just under the points change. this was the difference between many of the places from last year ( not saying any of the results would have changed - haven't looked at that - might be an interesting analysis)

Just my 2 cents.

thanks
richard

Hey Rhino -

I do not need cheap viagra.
I am not looking for a enlargement.
I am not looking for a Russian bride.

So, when I receive emails from You Tube or Facebook, I just erase them without opening them. I am sure many others do the same.

Maybe this why no one is answering.

Jack.
