Production Run of Paul's Flyduino Mega

Paul just started a list for pre-orders on his Flyduino Mega:

His 5x5cm Flight Controller comes at 55$ (+ decent shipping fees) based on a ATMega 1280 with all bells & whistles pinned out!

Yes this is thought as a Seeeduino replacement its smaller and you can connect everything directly to it.
It have these common 4.5x4.5cm holes.
It have no sensors on board like the seeeduino. You will need a FTDI for it cause for weight and size reasons its not on board.

First the Beta Test has to be completed, but the production run seems to be near.

so then the same method as programming the pro mini can be used? its all good - the speed at which these things are coming out and the quality is very impressive. keep up the excellent work

just to verify this unit will work to program - http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9716

My Board as the Seeeduino Mega are basicaly ATMEGA1280 arduino boards, without Sensors.
Both will work.
The Flyduino is smaller and you can plug everything you need directly.
The holes have 4.5x4.5cm which is a common standard in the Multirotor scene.
You will need a FTDI for the Flyduino, the Seeeduino have USB on board.
For the Seeeduino its better to get a shield to make the connector adaptions, this is not needed for the Flyduino.
I will offer a Flyduino Kit, which means a preassembled PCB with all hard to solder SMD mounted, you only need to solder, the in the Flyduino Kit, supplied Pinheaders on your own.
The Flyduino is designed to work together with Jussis FF_IMU (but of course you can choose any other sensor combination).
Give us some time to offer more complete kits, this is not worked out now.

Every ftdi adaptor works, this one is also FT232 based like most of them.
It should be fine, in worst case sceanrio you have to shorten the reset pins before uploading.
But i think this one have the auto reset function as well.

@ reverendrichie
i am not sure about those
will have to investigate further
But those FTDI Chips are very common.
Lots of mobile phone data cables use them.
You can easily adapt an old data cable from your old phone (or any cheap ebay offer)
if the right chip is in it.
I think then you will need the manual reset function, but it should be possible to add that on the datacable too.
Maybe those you choose are working, dont know exactly, but i think the autoreset will not work.

Thanks for all your explorations, Reverend!

A 5$ alternative for the Sparkfun 15$ FTDI/USB isn't too bad.

Go on fishing for pearls - if I remember correctly you were the one who found the ELV BMA020, right?

No, it was not me that discovered the BMA020.
