Any one going to the build night and has a 1.1 to 1.3 meter wing span DLG or slopper please bring so I can see the construction styles and relative strenghts.

I would use 220 grit to sand off as many layers of the original paint as you want to remove. A flat piece of scrap EPP works great as a sanding block. Then switch to 400 grit to smooth out some of the scratches. Don't worry about removing them all, since the primer should fill most light scratches. If the sandpaper clogs up with paint, then switch brands. Or else wet sand the plane.

After spraying the primer and letting it cure, you can lightly sand it with 400 grit before spraying on the color coats. Lightly re-sand any areas with 400 grit in between color coats. The final coat of paint should fill up any scratches from the 400 grit.

Once all the color is sprayed on, I wipe down the entire plane with #0000 steel wool. This removes any micro-bumps left from overspray and smooths out the surface without really scratching the paint. Then you can add whatever details you want: panel lines, decals, etc. Spray the plane with a clear coat if you want to, and you're done.

AMA Expo -

It's that time of the year again. Noticed they have a group rate discount. If we buy 10 tickets at a time, we save $2 ($8 per). You all interested? We would probably all have to show up at about the same time to distribute tickets.

Might I suggest visiting Flo's Cafe on Chino Airport for those attending the event. It is a classic I try to visit whenever I'm in the area. Chino airport is an amazing place too! Maybe we should just plan a OCSS day there sometime in the spring and visit one of the museums there.

OT but an FYI to any of you small device collectors out there. Best buy is doing a tradein/recycle promo until 1/19 where you get $5 in Best Buy gift cards for each "small device" you trade in working or NOT. Note that if you don't need anything from Best Buy you can purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards there as well which work on anything sold at Amazon so pretty much the same as cash. While the policy notes you can only bring in 3 items per day I wouldn't reminding them about it and just try to do as many as you can if you have more than 3, if they won't take more just bring them back the next day. Best Buy's customer service is notoriously hit and miss if not just outright lame so YMMV some.

HERE's the link to their offer which would be a good idea to print out and take in with you if you try this. Originally it's an email, so just say you received it as an email and you will be fine.

HERE's
a link to the deal alert thread on the slickdeals website. For any questions on the details read through that thread, post there for questions, or else ask me and I can share my limited experience.

This worked out nicely for me as I have a stash of old cell phones which filter back to me when we roll out new ones at work. Yesterday I traded in 3 old flip phones without chargers without any issue.

Actually they have a real Zero that they fly. They may have another they are restoring??? Lets go find out!.

Yes, the talks they do are very good also. I have attended a few in the past. One was with Burt Rutan, and another with an Apollo astronaut.

I think I recall someone mentioning they sprayed the strapping tape with 3M77 waited 10~ min and then applied the tape to the EPP. This prevented overspray of 3M77 to unnecessary parts of the wing. How sound is this method? Does it work just as well as 3M77 to the EPP wait 10~ min then applying tape?

who can find just about anything to be anal about

EDIT: for shits and giggles, I'll post this question to the main board too

I spray the wing, then apply tape, when I am taping the whole wing. Are you doing laminating film?

I plan on going Friday. (unless there's surf or wind) Is the group by for a specific day?

I also heard I should bring a wad of cash with me as you can score all types of deals. Is that true?

Just finish it !!
If you keep building a little overspray won't hurt.
Or in the months that pass the glue will deactivate
