There isn't a direct link from the Laguna Niguel website anymore but creative Googling can find you the application.
I downloaded it and have attached it below. Requirements are listed on page 5 under section 4. Basically you need Tom or one of the other 3 people listed HERE. to give you your initial test and sign off. You can then fly there as long as there are other fliers there who already have permits. While there is no marked place on the form you now need to have 6 more signatures on the form (I had mine added to the bottoms part of the form) of at least 3 different people and on different occasions who have watched you fly and who agree that you know what you're doing. Not as hard as it seems, and the basic jiff of it is to make sure reckless pilots or amateur pilots who lack good control do not endanger the ability of all pilots to fly there by landing in the million dollar homes that boarder the slope or worse, injure a bystander. Once you have the application paperwork filled out you just need to walk it into the LN city hall 2nd floor to the left hand side. -Jonathan |

GoPor Mount Upgrade!
In other news I upgraded my GoPor camera mount. Previously I was wrapping a piece of bi-directional strapping tape around my iPhone and biting down on the flap. Once I was done I'd peel of the tape and throw it away. This had a few drawbacks such as, tape residue left on iPhone, prep-time needed, waste of tape, and saliva slippery tape being hard to hold in mouth. The upgraded version uses a small clear plastic bag (i.e. ziplock freezer bag, thicker is good). I wrapped it around the phone tightly and then used clear packing tape to hold it. I then wrapped the socked iPhone with the bi-directional strapping tape as usual. After that I cleaned off the release residue from the backside of the strapping tape with some white board cleaner and stuck on some self adhesive rubber nubs I had laying around. This helps provide a catch that your teeth can easily hold on to while holding it in your both and allows you to be able to relax the jaw slightly.
iPhone is snug but still slides in and out of tube as needed. Also the touch screen can still be used through the plastic. -Jonathan who will graduate to a GoPro Hero3 Black shortly, but is making do in the meanwhile ImagesView all Images in thread

GoPro Cameras
Jonathan
Your IPhone bag is a great idea. I have a question about using the GoPro cams for distance shots like we use to shoot our planes. It seems like the lenses are setup super wide angle for close ups or at least that's what I see a lot of on their promo photos and videos. Can they be set for long distance shots? The iPhone does a good distance shot, by the way. Chuck |
