Mustek DV 4000

I saw one of these little video/still Mustek cameras last weekend and just had to have one.

4 mp (2 mp interp) still, Video 640x480 using SD card, USB or RCA for viewing or downloading. (all included)

1.5 inch view screen and only 4.3 oz with card and lithium battery.

They are going for $150 on Ebay right now and other regular retail sites for $160. There is even a DV 3500 that uses AA batteries if you want, but it is the same price.

The Mustek gSmart Mini3 is cmos as we know, and it has a 2.1 mpix sensor, but uses hardware interpolation to 3 mpix. I did a low light test with it now to see if the high quality gave any more resolution than the medium quality, and it did!!!

Here are the raw images from the camera:

If you zoom in on small stuff you can see how the details increase with the larger images. Hmm, I need to try taking some APs with the high rez, I've only been using the med rez as I didn't think it was any better at high. Now I know different.

So far I am very happy with it. With a 256mb SD card I get 1.5 hrs video! Not great video bad not bad by any means. 5-10 minutes with the included card.

It likes light. Taken a few pics in dim lighting and it is not good at all.

Zoom is fuzzy, but it is digital zoom.

Plugs into the TV or USB or via a card reader.

Would I recommend it. Yes, for the price it is great. If you can afford better, go for it.

I just measured the amp draw for my HP435 photosmart camera and even with the LCD ripped off the meter was usually at 700mah with one or two peaks over 1amp. No wonder I couldn't power it through the BEC.

Just saw this 6 Megapixel at $400. VuPont DigiCam.

Don't have any details on the manufacturer. But at 1.3 oz. sounds very good for weight.

There a thread on the VuPoint . It looks like it may be interpolating 3.1 MP up to 6 MP, despite their claims to be true 6MP.

Caveat emptor. (Yeah, I watched the Brady Bunch as a kid.)

Has anyone purchased one of the new Vivitar 3350's? I saw one for the first time today at Walmart. It was $19.95. Perhaps it was mismarked like the Aiptek Pencam SD's were the first of this year. It looked like the perfect size for AP. I checked the Vivitar site and they don't even list a 3350.
