Many years ago I was walking through Madrid when I stumbled across a hobby shop and saw the hull and bought it on the spot. It is fibreglass and the planking and woodgrain are beautifully moulded in. I was based in England at the time and built the deckworks in conjunction with another guy (me doing the woodwork, R/C etc., he the rigging) who had some plans but he has since passed away and it is only now that I have wired in a sound system - petrol engine - and so wish to find out more of the type of boat it is.

I think it maybe a Catilano fishing boat. A while back I contacted the Maritime museum in Barcalona for information and never got a response.
I recently saw a picture of a boat like this in a model magazine...think it was ships in scale.

Lucky !

You are so lucky to have come across such a rare thing ... building scratch plank on frame would be way cool ...

The hull and rudder looks very similar to the old 26ft double end Navy motor launch. Very nice model you have.

I have sat on this boat since 1988 and have never sailed it once. I recently heard an engine sound system and thought it would sound great in this boat so I dug out the boat, cleaned it up and as I write I'm installing the system. I have spent most of the day trying to find out what the original is and have found out that it is a Llaut, a fishing boat based in Mallorca or Majorca. There is a bit of a cult with these boats and they make pleasure cruisers with the same hull form. Llaut is pronounced "Ya-oot" - how they get that I don't know. I'm very pleased with what I have been ignoring for so long. I have to mention Trevor who did the rigging etc. He has passed away but all credit to his efforts.

Double-L in Spanish is "Y"... Pancho Villa is "vee-ya", Mallorca = Majorca = "Mai-yorca"

Sweet model in any language. No clue to the hull-maker?

Check out the "naked" build:

Suggests a Corel kit is available in 1:25, ~16 inches... might could be scaled!

Corel Llaut, available in the US for about $100:

These boats share a common ancestry with the "Monterey Clipper", which evolved from similar lateen rigged boats that immigrant Italian and Portuguese fishermen used in California.

No idea of who made hull. However I see that there is a large club - Google in "Llaut Modelismo" called "Llaut Modelismo Mallorca" which has it's own website and I would be pretty sure that if the hull is still commercially available they would know of it. Spanish speakers could probably find out. The hull I have is superb with so much detail cast in. I bought it in Madrid, maybe a search on the net for Madrid model boat orientated shops could turn something up. If so the question could also be asked - what else is available with this quality? Spanish speakers/writers again.

I Googled in Llaut modelismo Images and got pages of photos including one which looks identical to my hull. There is also a book which I think includes plans which is also featured in the Image pages.

The lines on that boat are "catchy", to say the least, and I think PatMat has zeroed in on what kind of fisherman it is.

Looking at the pages and pages of Llauts on "Llaut Modelismo" Google images there is a book of text on this type of boat and which includes plans. Available from nauticarobinson.com / see also nauticarobinson.com. Price 12.50 Euro. (What is that in dollars - not much I don't think).
This hull looks the same as mine.

The real thing. Beautiful.

A more modern rig.

This has nothing to do with Llauts but is on the Llaut Google Image Llaut pages - what on earth is going on here? From the Llaut image page.

Llaut

Sandymonart, you find any more on this type of boat / kit ? the corel kit, and many of the others in images have no prop., therefore sail only ... yours unique in this ? these are quite different I would think ...
