GoPro HD Hero Lens mod. No fisheye!!!

I don't know if anyone has seen this, but I stumbled across this thread over at APlanding, there are a couple of guys that have switched out the fisheye lens on the Gopro for a standard aftermarket lens. The lens is available for $49.00. The mod does not sound that hard, just remove the case, unscrew the lens and add the new one. You do have to hook up the video out to set the focus but thats not a big deal.

Check out this guys sample footage

I did read through that thread and there is good info. However, this lens mod looks to be a permanent solution with high quality results.

I don't see any difference in the mods by Vortex and Sanders. While Sanders used a EUR 39 lense, Vortex used one for USD 49. Both seem to give good results. Don't mix this with the securitycam lenses (USD 9 or so) that were mentioned too on the linked thread.

The video is spectacular and the clarity is superb! Mike thank you so much. Now I might consider buying the GoPro and the new lens. So, can anyone show a link to the $49.00 lens?

Power,
Way cool...you've probably been asked about 1.5B times but what flight stabilization system are you using...or is it video editing software that gives you such a stable video?

Hi Ken,

I am using straight HK 401B gyros in my T-copters. Nothing on my fixed wings. The video software I use is Vegas Movie Studio 10, The footage is straight from the camera, nothing added for smoothing. Flying in low to no winds is probably the single most important part.

Just to be clear... That video I posted above is not mine, he is a pro

It flew...nearly!
Thanks, Mike, very nice find! Now all gopro has to do is make their lenses interchangeable!

I agree! The least they could do is just offer the standard lens since it is available.

Sparrowhawk,

Here is the link and info on the lens:

Mike,

I'm assuming you ordered one and will make the mod. I hope you take lots of pics/notes and start a new thread...
