Not that I'm aware of. But now you mention it we should have.

Sounds like a bit of a chore then? Well, have some of that good English barley soda, you'll feel better.

I've often wondered how blacks feel they can try harder on their own, without jumping into a hostile attitude about all the usual complaints...law enforcement profiling AA's,etc.

Maybe a new role model is needed...wait,we've got the POTUS..right.?

Well then, why are most of young ones more concerned about being a rap star...instead of focusing upon academic achievements.?

Why isn't Rev.Jesse Jackson & Rev. Al Sharpton speaking out..when most inner cities are a cesspool of crime, drugs & dispair.?
Yeah, there are a few voices calling for that sort of thing, but they don't seem to get much traction. Bill Cosby, for one, and, strange as it may sound, Louis Farrakhan, though some of the rest of his message is not wonderful.

I see places like Camden NJ or the badlands in Philadelphia. Man, it would be some job of bootstrapping to reverse all that. I wish I had the answer, but don't even know where to start.

Brings up the old Ten Years After song. 'Rageous lyric.

Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
Till there are no rich no more?

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, Monopoly

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

I seem to recall the last MLK thread I started just brought criticisms from the left over my audacity to praise him. Just my recollection, may be mistaken in my old age.

No doubt he helped fix the country.

Maybe you should....On the other hand, here in the USA, we are only 200 or so years old.
You guys have a few more centuries under your belt, and must curtail your celebration days....otherwise, there will be no more work days left!

I don't think it's fixed yet, but his contributions sure seem to have made it better for many of our fellow citizens.

Sorry, was a touch busy wandering around DC with my wife and kidlets. We went to the National Archives and viewed the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights. We also hit the Smithsonian Air & Space and Natural History Museums. Yesterday was the National Zoo (what a letdown!) and the National Museum of Health and Medicine...creepy, freak-showish stuff, but neatly cool to see!

Most private businesses work a normal schedule on MLK Day, President's Day, Columbus Day, etc.

I thought the UK celebrated Good Riddance Day coincident with our Thanksgiving Day.

We used to do that here too, but MLK Day kinda put the kibosh to that.
