Walkera V400D02

This thread is for all the V400 owners to share information and experiences.

This heli seems to be one of the hottest new productus in rc helicopters. The 'price to features' ratio is too good to ignore, and I feel this is the reason so many people are buying them.

I'm waiting for my V400 to be shipped, and have been looking all over the internet for as much info as I can find. Before I take it out of the box I should know everything I need to safely own and operate this amazing machine, and I'm ready to share. My goal is to spend more time in the air and less time on the repair bench.

Please feel free to share your comments, good and bad.

Hi Kdean,

Thanks for starting this thread, as I have the same goals you do.

First off, here is a link to a site that has real nice upgrades to brushless main motor, better blades, stronger landing gear, etc. Prices are reasonable except for the lipos. I am sure you have read about the cheap servo problem, and they are trying to come up with a drop-in metal version.

I also found a sim that will work on my Mac using an ESky controller however, my son has an extra PC laying around, and I might be able to use an older version of Real Flight. This is all good in that it will be FREE.

Spare Partz

I made this list of parts that you should order at the same time you order your heli. (if you are a new flyer like I am, and dont want to wait weeks after a minor crash)

I made this list by finding all the parts that were out of stock at xheli.com

Tail rotor blades $3.60
Tail struts $3.60
Tail servo rod holder $3.60
Tail motor holder $3.60
Main gear set $5.00
Main rotor blades $19.00
Servo(WK-7,6-5)(3 pcs) $28.00 (usualy the first things to go on this heli)

There are also some nice parts at RTF-Heli.com,

Super Struts, Metal Tail/Servo mount, Main Blades, Brushless Kits, some really nice stuff "folks". Check them out. Spadcat posted the link....

Here are two links to some of the replacement servo options for the V400. They are not direct replacement but with some tweeking you can make them work.

kdean....excellent list of parts and links. I have used both Hobby Partz and Hobby King and Hobby Partz has very fast shipping and many times it is free. They also carry a 3s 20c 1300ma lipo for $6.90 shipped and it actually is a little smaller then the stock Lipo (don't know about weight). They are at presently out of stock. I have bought a large quantity (one order alone was 55 pcs) of Blue Lipos and have not had a failure in many hours of 3D fixed wing flying.

Here's a link to the Walkera China site where you can download the user manual and diagrams of the V400.

http://www.walkera.com/en1/particular.jsp?pn=V400D02

It was nice to read through the manual without the heli present. You are not distracted by the actual heli, and the rush to get it in the air.

System Wiring Cleanup

Question?

Is it possible to shorten the length of the wires on the electronics system of a heli?

I see a lot of images and videos of helis, with servo, motor, and battery mods, that have the wires and leads hanging out all over the place. I would like to trim, and fit securely to the airframe, all the servo, ECS, and battery leads and wires. Not only will it look better (cleaner), but all that extra wire means extra weight.

Can I shorten, especially servo and ESC wires, and re-fit the connections without any problems?

I answered that on the other forum thread, but it is really sloooow in posting. I do it all the time with our 3D ships to make them lighter. It is done easiest with a good wire cutter, stripper and soldering equipment.

Hope this helps.

Edit: PS Thanks for the manual link!

kdean,

RTF-Heli.com has found a mg servo that fits tightly and are testing it. Hopefully it will be available soon.

V450D01 servos

spec:

WK-09-8 / weight 13.8g / speed 0.12sec/60°(4.8V) / torque 1.6kg/cm(4.8V) / dimension 22.5*11.8*25.5mm

This might be a direct replacment.

Heck.... You should be able to use the whole rx set up and brushless main, (minus the rotor servo)

Just a thought...........

Waiting...waiting...

UPS tracking said they would delivery the V400 by end of day today...well it is almost, no it is dark now. Maybe someone stole it!.

Last night I ordered all the upgrades for it from RTF-Heli.com except the brushless motor and blades. I figured it would be a while before I will need any real power. They were shipped out today.

Wait, sounds like a truck pulled up outside.....No, false alarm.
