It would seem that the days of going into a store and finding a knowledgeable person to help you are gone...
They went a long time ago. I remember way back when I still had a proper job (so it must have been a long time ago), standing behind a guy at the counter of a well known UK electronics chain store, and hearing some of the conversation. It seems he was hoping to do something technical at the insides of a radio and needed a mica capacitor. He was confidently informed that mica had gone out of business.

well, sometimes the nuts roll INTO the store through the door.......
I was working electrical dept. at Lowes and every year I would get one person
that put up their Xmas lights "backwards" and then wanted an "adaptor "
with prongs sticking OUT of a elec. socket so they could put the extension
end of the light string into it to power the little lights......
BOTH sides of those conversations got really interesting,I must say.

The salesperson could have caused an asthma attack in the patron, had he asked for an air capacitor. (........ air had gone out of business)

Knowledge & experience cost $... which places either cant afford or dont want to pay for.

Don't want to pay for would be it, and that includes Walmart and Walgreen's, both of which treat their employees badly---.

I no longer shop at either place.

Woking retial is not the greatest as I did it for 17 years with the "Blue lite" killers. Company always wanted every one to give their all and be knowledgeable, but didn't want to pay for that knowledge so employees after a while just don't care. Now it wasn't all bad as I was there and worked way up the ladder in that time. But, I also saw the moronic views of a corperate that gets mad at the stores for not having a "better" quality of employee. We felt outr store was the training center for all other b usinesses in the area as the people would get hired, learn the basic functionality at minimum wage, then head over to tthe competition or mall and get paid higher wages as they now had "experience" after 2 weeks. So have a little mercy on those folks as there are some ( not a lot though) that are more intelligent than you might suspect--especially in todays economy.
