Found my Tamiya Toyota Hilux Circa 1984...What to do?

While digging out some tools I needed for mods to my MERV I got for Christmas. What an Awesome gift!!! I found my old Tamiya Toyota Hi-Lux that I had bought back in 1984ish. It never did perform all that well for me. The speed controller died, the transmission never shifted right, etc. As you can see from the pics sitting around for 27 years getting banged up has not helped it. It looks as though pristine ones are worth from $1000 and up.

So my question is what to do with it? I think I could
1. Fix it up, clean it up and make it work half way decent with stuff I already have, and not spend too much. Then either sell or keep depending on the type of performance I can get out of it.
2. Turn it into a rock crawler with a bit of money.
3. Sell as is, and then put that towards a 1/8 racer I could take to the track. Anybody have an idea of value as is?
4. Spend a lot of time and money and restore it back to original condition or close to it, to get max $ out of it.

Suggestionas as to what to do would be great

Thanks

Drew

Wow! That one does look rough. How are the tires and rubber parts? Is the kit complete? 'As is' I don't know that you could get more that $100 - $200 for it. I might be interested if you are looking to sell it.

But if you are looking to put the time and money into fixing it, it would be a great crawler!

Here's one I saw on e-bay for $200.

Thanks for the input guys. I am still undecided. That Ebay link is awesome, 16 bids and up to $222 with 5 days to go! I think I will await the end of that auction to decide.

Anyone else have ideas?

If it is all there I would restore it. But if your not into it pedal it and put the money into the R/C that you would use. It would not take much to get it going if you have all of the parts. I think it would have to be a labor of love if your going to fix it.

Hey Bro,

If you do decide to sell it 'as is', will you keep me in mind?

I am really blown away by that ebay auction. It ended at 406 plus 55 for shipping. Here is another one complete with body for 750 on the first bid http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-TAMIYA-B...49863368398570
