Brownell boat stands

I needed to make six Brownell boat stands for my latest project, a USCG 65' tugboat. These boat stands are similar to car jack stands, and they come in different sizes.

For 1:24th thru 1:35th scale boats, you'll need the following materials:
2-56 all thread rod (for jack screw)
1/8" brass tubing (center tube)
1/8" or 3/32" brass rod (support rods)
1/16" brass rod (jack screw adjustment)
2-56 brass nuts (jack screw adjustment)
thin plywood for pad
Soldering jig is oak with support rods on 3/4" centers

For 1:16th scale thru 1:10th scale, you'll need the following:
4-40 all thread
5/32" brass tube
5/32" or 1/8" brass rod
3/32" brass rod
4-40 brass nuts
thin plywood for pad
Soldering jig is oak with support rods on 1 & 1/2" centers.

All I need to do is finish cleaning up and paint the base, and add the wood pads.

See CGBOB is going the extra effort for his display stand. Think there just he might just be pushing the next level of quality to a scale display stand. Cool idea.

Great job on the stands CG Bob. I attached a couple of pictures showing angled stands, you might consider making a few like that. The ones you are making are right on.

Yes, I still work there. Tuesday night we were out of stock on the sizes I needed.

The first picture I posted shows angled stands, and those will be made after I build the next straight stand. The CGC CAPSTAN had four angled stands near the bow and a pair of straight stands near the stern during some drydock maintenance.

While these stands are being made for a USCG 65' tug with its own build log, I thought they needed their own.

What is amazing in looing at the full size stands is that they do work to stableize something that is extremely heavy. Kind of like ants--able to holld a hundred times their own weight.

Yeah, stronger than they seem. When bunches of boats are placed on the hard for hurricane protection these stands keep the boats upright against some fierce winds.

It's a good idea to run chains under the keel between pairs of stands, to help prevent them jumping out.
