new to rc trucks need some advice

me and a couple of friends decided to get into some rc trucks so we went out and bought some traxxas electric stampedes. We all love them but want to do the swap to the brushless engines. Every hobby shop we go to gives us different pricing some want to keep the original engines, some don't. We've been priced from 130 to 180 for the swap. My question is is it easier just to do it yourself or pay the money?

It's easy to do it yourself. As long as you know how to solder (putting on battery connectors and the like).

I think it's like $150 for the Velineon system made for the stampede. I have that in my VXL Stampaed and believe me it's worth the money. Plus it's a traxxas part so it should fit in no problem.

Check the traxxas site I think they do a trade up program as well.

go ezrun (8.5t) or hk system they are exactly the same but cheaper and have so many more set up features then the velenion, although the velenion has a great motor for 3s lipo's
