Savour every minute of it They grow up quick.

(It seems like last year I got a card like that, but Teen Princess just graduated from HS, and is off to university in the fall.)

You guys are so right. Of course I started late, so most of my contemporizes are grandparents, or sending their kids off to college. As an older parent I do savor each and every moments.

New Chain Drive

Testing the new chain drive system. I ordered a simple cog and chain system from Servo City (fairly cheap) to see if this works. I'll try this and see if it holds up. So far it's doing fine. Hope to do a water test soon.

Not much mesh on the gears from the motor is there? Really shows it in the second pic.

Yep, and most likely needs to be larger, but I thought I'd start here. After seeing how easy this went together I think I'll go with much larger cogs and a metal chain. I only have about $20 bucks into this setup to see how well it worked. Wasn't real sure how much clearance I'd have between the motor and the drive gear, but as you can see there is amble room for a much larger drive gear. After some testing I'll know how much room I'll have to play with in the drive housing as well.

I thought that was an old spindle from an old VCR. They are becoming fewer and fewer.

Yep Green-Boat and I grab everyone I come across for the parts - if it's not working.

Made some very good progress this week. Got the finish chain drive on and it's running great. As soon as my neighbor goes on vacation I'll try it out in his pool Also got the signs on, now the Major really is looking like the real thing. This thing is so big, I guess you could call it my Monsterpiece!

Pictures soon!

Thanks Tim!

As Fooman2008 pointed out the smaller drive didn't"t have enough mesh so I replaced it with a larger one. And I put a MUCH larger gear on the wheel side to get the ratio down a little more. It still can fly when I need to but will crawl as well. Should have another water test soon and a video, although no cat will be envolved in MY video - well, maybe a few catfish

Pictures

Well the list of things left to do is getting smaller and smaller. Lots of pictures, but it looks like little progress. Although it doesn't look like it much has gotten done, there is a lot of minor detail that has been added. I did have to rebuild the drive system and replace many parts. But she's ready for the water and her next big test!
