Thanks , I have built several models using miniwax polycrylic
and tissue with very good results - all the finish's have lasted
without problems . when I finished my first 737 it looked very good
till it sat in the sun for 3 days at the NEAT fair
the sun caused the foam under to develop the little bumps and
the tissue lifted in a couple of area's , I was able to repair it
but you can see the bumps if you look close .this is a comon problem
with this type of foam , some model come with warning to keep model
out of sun.
I building a large BAE hawk (same kind of foam) but have come
up with a glass lite - I used 20 min finished -cure epoxy and the heavist
tissue I could get mixed it 75% epoxy 25% alcohol and applyed it the
the same way as with the WBPU
so far the results look excellent , and hopefully will not get the bumps under
the finish . I have lived in Florida so I know how hot it get's down there.

Thank you for the details about epoxy. Your models look fantastic. I think I will try epoxy next time to make a more rigid surface. I like the 3/4 ounce glass cloth because it wraps nicely around compound curves. But with only WBPU, the surface can dent easily. I will try to keep mine in the shade.

I did not think about thinning the epoxy with alcohol. What kind of alcohol, denatured alcohol or isopropyl? I am not a chemist, so no idea what the difference is.

BAe Hawk is coming along nicely Pulsery- I like that glassing technique. I might try that sometime.

ive done a couple of glassing jobs myself. have any of yall ever used baby powder mixed with your wbpu, to help fill in cracks & voids. whenever i paint my aircraft with craftsmart or the waterbase paints, i mix in some wbpu with the paints. it keeps the paint from turning out so dull & dry looking. also makes the paint more durable.

About power. Did you take up the landing gear during flight?

Mine is very underpowered with landing gear down, but in the up position then my plane has more than enough.

About wind, I have flown mine in no wind and in a lot of wind, The only issue I have with this aeroplane is that it flexes too much so it feels like you have no control over it when in alot of wind (About 10-15 m/s or 22,5-34mph).
These type of winds is regular wind conditions in denmark.

If I only wanted to fly in close to no wind, then I would never get to fly this bird due to the weather here in Denmark.

But great video.

I left the gear down. The 2 main gears were sticking during pre-flight test. I could always get them to keep moving by cycling the gear switch, so it never stuck permanently. But I did not want to risk it on maiden flight. My nerves could only handle so much.

On my next flight (hopefully this Sunday), I will use take-off flaps, and also pull the gear up right away. I will commit to 10 flights at least before I decide to change anything.

Jakob- I hear you about the wind. I have the same problem. Yesterday it was blowing at 80+ mph where I work.. Think it was about 40mph at the field.
I usually only have free time to go fly about 10 times a year on averege and it seems to be blowing on all those days!

Doug. Those retracts you got from PWC rc. How long did it take to get them once ordered? How much was the shipping? Thinking of swapping mine out since lots of people have issues with bending.
Thanks

What is the easiest way so far to get current Southwest Airlines colors on it?

Regards
My 737 was airbrushed by a friend of mine here in Gilbert, Arizona. Unfortunately paint or vinyl covering will be the only way to do the SWA scheme.. The decal manufacturers I know of only make decals when the scheme is based on a white airplane.

to be honest I don't know the diffrence between denatured alcohol or isopropyl
I used isopropyl and it worked well.
I will make a video of how I did it

this is of mini wax polycrylic and tissue

ployglass.wmv (3 min 2 sec)

Hawaiian Flyin

I ordered the retracts from
http://www.pw-rc.com/product_info.php/products_id/2631

took about a week and less than $10 but I order other things too
great service - they ship next day even with cheap shipping

Isopropyl is the kind to use....it contains 91% alcohol and 9% water. It's the medical type. "Rubbing" alcohol has a lower % of alcohol and some type of an oil...as well as water.

Dry fit and operation of the spoiler system designed by Doug.

Having a break from the wings so started the next section - The Spyro nose wheel door mod. Its works very well.

Thanks to all the input This thread is so full of useful tips and information.

The spoilers are looking very sharp! When they are up, it will expose the flaps and look really cool and show off how the flaps are really hanging out there.

One tip someone told me was to reinforce the nose gear mount - add a hard wood spar, about 2" to 3" long on each side, right above the plywood plate. I never got any photos of mine. Just cut a slot in the foam right above the plywood and glue in the spars, then the plywood plate will glue to those spars, as well as the foam.

Did you recess the nose gear to get the wheel all the way up into the well? If so, how did you compensate to keep the plane level on the runway?

-700s actually do not sit level- they have a very slight nose down attitude when all three are sitting on the ramp. I recess my nosegear as well simply for scale looks.
