Build Log

HM-8 avionnette simple R.E.T build ...HD MAIDEN and CRASH! VIDEO ADDED.

Let me start the NEW YEAR with a simple R.E.T design. I'm still deciding on the wing and of course Sir KEN's simple fuse design. I dedicate this build to Sir Ken and Sir Jimmy flyers. The J-BUG had been my favorite front yard flyer, so I will be putting HENRI MIGNET twist to it. PDF PLANS WILL BE AVAILABLE AFTER ALL TESTS ARE DONE.

MAIDEN FLIGHT ENJOY!

HM-8 avionette maiden flight. (1 min 31 sec)

CRASH TEST DUMMY!

HM-8 avionette wing failure crash! (0 min 34 sec)

HERES WHAT I GOT SO FAR: feel free to jump in on this build. your Ideas are welcome.

Thanks for your cool comments Sir Jimmy, I will be using same gear as the J-BUG, as of now I have a 30" WS I will have to see if I need to shorten the wings after the test flight.

I did a bit more building, adjusting , and freestyle shaping.

ALBRT.

Here you go ENJOY!

Looks great already. Are those wings strong enough at 3mm?

I was more scared of folding the wings with the 30" WS. My J=BUG have a 3mm wings and it handles aerobatics really well without breaking the wings. I guess the flight test will tell us how solid these wings are.

ALBRT,

That is just too nice!

Take a look at the airfoil at the wingtip. Looks like it is flattening out in flight. If that is happening you are loosing some lift which is contributing to the speed.

Keep up the good work,
Ken

Bravo Albert!
The HM-8 looks just awesome. I am really taking a liking to that lwr fuse mnt'd LG.

Watching it fly, it does seem to scoot around in exactly the same fashion as the J-Bug. I know peeps think of traditional highwing RET's as very trainer like (and this is true) but you can still zip 'em around just fine. It looks like the HM-8 will excel at aerobatics if the urge arises.
I see what you mean about it having a bit of speed to it. So was that the slowest you could get it and keep lvl flight?
I am curious to see what, if any chanes you would make to try to slow it down some.
So would adding a bit to the chord work towards that end I wonder? Seems like it would but as I know from just limited designing/r&d experience only, I could be totally wrong.

Very anxious to watch as you r&d this beauty.
Keep up the good work!
Jimmy

What is the WS now you shortened it? Seems to hold very well. I would expect them to fold or bend too much. This is real depron? I'm starting to think the material I'm using is sloppier than real depron. It's intended to use as isolation (sound) underneath the floor. I had some similar set up for the blue baby trainer with this foam and the 3mm wings just wouldn't hold it. I now have 2 sheets on top of each other for a real UC wing and this seems to work.
